A
Tone Sculptor and Guardian Angel in one!

From now on, I will always have this in my gig bag. It's a multi-purpose tool that has features that you might not always need, but some time they will save you and your live performance.

Pros:
+ GREAT EQ and tone! Transparent, has parametric mids control and very sweet sounding treble range;
+ Has a DI out with switchable pre/post;
+ Output hot enough to drive a power amp;
+ Built-in overdrive, which definitely sounds nice on moderate settings and can be used as a cab simulator;
+ 18v for more headroom;
+ Takes batteries

Cons:
- Overdrive (AGS) doesn't have a dedicated volume, thus jumps in volume significantly when engaged, rendering it unusable for mid-song activation;
- AGS itself sounds 'unnatural' on higher gain settings;
- Little control over AGS sound;
- No dedicated cab simulation, except for AGS on low gain;
- 18v only

Adding treble introduces some noise, but that makes sense. The AGS is interactive with the EQ and was a good idea, but the execution is poor. I understand that it is meant to be left untouched mid-song, but why put a footswitch then? A box of that size could at least have one or two controls for the overdrive, where at least the volume jump could've been addressed...
Nonetheless, the DI and the preamp is great, and the AGS is a feature that can be used with success. Parametric mid control is a saviour!
Highly recommended!

A
Amazing sound! I didn't believe the sound coming from the PA
Anonymous 21.03.2014
It's great for people that gig a lot and don't want to carry an amp around (or playing in bars etc that have bad amps) or record a lot! The sound is amazing! The build quality is what you would expect from aguilar (excellent).

The only negative i have to say is: Couldn't find a power supply for it and most pedalboard supplies don't have enough "juice" (either they lack in voltage, or in amperes). The only one that can power it at 18volts is the biggest trex, going for about 250?. Using batteries is also not an option: High quality 9v batteries (requires 2) lasted for only two two-hour gigs.

I ended up ordering the aguilar power supply, that I can't say I love as it is very bulky.

I love it though: Get one if you record.

The clue is in the name

This pedal by far the best I've ever owned.

The range of tones that are achievable with this pedal countless, to suit any style of playing (with fingers or pleck, slap etc.)

The AGS function adds another dimension to the amount of possibilities that can be set. It can create a growling and driven sound to a p bass or more of a boost to the range of a jazz bass.

pros: the build quality is line with all Aguilar products, it is sturdy, reliable and great for use on the road and in the studio.

cons: the fact that it requires 18v of power, but it is clear to see why this is so, as the amount of power that this pedal packs is unbelievable.

This pedal is definitely worth considering as I've owned other bass pre-amp/ di pedals in the past and this pedal is on another level.

Great tone shaping. Not so deep bass in my opinion. AGS can be grindly cool or powerfully wild.
The guaranteed quality of Aguilar makes this a very good choice.
