Useful Budget Midi Controller
02.03.2017
I bought this with the purpose of being able to write drum sequences for online music as a broke teenager, and found this to be adequate for the purpose.

The pads are nice and sturdy. They are sensitive enough to make accurate finger drumming work, but I did miss the lack of the extra pads found on larger pad layouts found elsewhere.

I was a bit confused as to how Akai thought it feasible to mount such small rotary knobs on the LPD 8 however. I have 'piano fingers' so am fairly clumsy with small faders and knobs in general but even for a normal user they are ridiculously stubby and not pleasant to use, especially if you want to make smooth increments on things like filters and reverb, things that I feel many users would desire when producing on the fly.

I honestly didn't explore too much of the filters other than using multiple banks, so I can't comment too much on the built in features like prog change, so can't comment too much there.

Note: as this is fully programmable, it functions nicely as a cheap addition to a DJ setup, at least for Traktor. :)

Excellent contrôleur pour playback rig
Charly44, 06.09.2021

Great for the money
MesaB, 27.12.2020
This is my first controller of this type, so my opinion may not be too relevant.
I find it easy to use, with provided software. I use it to program drums with EZ Drummer in Studio One DAW. Setup was a bit tricky but figured it out quickly. Nothing too complicated.
I don't use rotary controls. Not, yet. Just the pads. I find pads a bit to stiff. I expected more sensitivity. Well, they require a bit more force than I expected. It took a while for me to adjust my fingers to the dynamics of the pads. I am getting decent results out of it. A small form factor is a big advantage when you don't have too much space on your desk. A clean layout makes it easy to use.
I would recommended to non-drummers like me. Very much fun to work with it programming your own drum loos.

I mean, the thing cost around 40 bucks...
David-yo-yo, 12.07.2021
I love the size of it. Perfect for traveling. The pads feel very soft but are though cookies. You want to touch them like a flower but you end up hammering the thing. Probably good for finger drumming.
