Much harder than DAW, not very portable, but still usable
Max Tau, 18.03.2019
Bought the AKAI MPC Live to create beats on long trips and while travelling. The device is too big and heavy for that ? Novation Circuit or TE OP-1 would work better.

The touch screen is rather unresponsive and hard to handle. Takes some menu-digging for some basic functions, but you get used to it.

The best way tu use it is to rely heavily on the Q-link knobs and the big rotary knob. These work really well.

The pads are great, easy to play. They do collect dirt and dust, though.

The software really takes time to get into and practice.

Overall: with time, I realized It was much more convenient to grab a laptop and a NI Maschine, than to carry around the AKAI. Same weight, longer battery life, way more flexibility.

Everything you need and more... seriously!

This system has it all. It works as a standalone music production unit and really nifty live music making tool.

Why buy a: drum machine, mixer, sequencer, synth, multi effects module, sound production software, and a computer - when this single unit does it all?

I have all of the above and now almost solely work on the MPC Live. It is now the heart of my DAW and live music making workflow. A must have.
