Amaran COB 60d

I work as a Director of Photography, for music documentaries and music videos, and in the fast world of music, on the road, in and out of studios, back stage, you need a small portable light with kick, for direct hard light, or with a softbox. I used the 60D's big cousin, the 120DMKII regularly, lastly on a Duran Duran music video with a softbox, as a travel light, following the action. Loved it. But when I heard about the 60D - I took the plunge - and here is why I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!
SIZE - tiny.
POWER OPTIONS - Love the V Lock attachment on the side, the Sony battery adapter it ships with - and it is also mains power.
LIGHT - I have tested the LUX - this light is 85% as bright as the 120D. New Generation COB it must be.
0-100% DIMMER + SPECIAL EFFECTS - same as the 120DmkII - except - this unit does away with the big outboard dimmer + effects pack - it is inside the unit + controlled from your cellphone via the free SIdus Link app. I can see it being killer for fast three point lighting set ups - you can control all the lighting levels for each light within the app, independently. Brilliant.
BOWENS MOUNT - I can use all my Lighting modifiers - especially amazing with my chinese lantern, on a boom - so lightweight - and I can adjust intensity via the app.
THOMANN - being U.K based - looked around - but best deal, and service with out a doubt from Thomann.
PRICE - say what??? all this for well under £200. Gobsmacked. Amazed. Thankful. These lights have made my kit both lighter, and hugely better.

Summary: der Amaran ist wirklich extrem kompakt und punktet mit Power, einfacherer ausgedachter Bedienung, V-Mount und durchdachter Verpackung!

- V-Mount - nebst Adapterplatte für Akkus - ist per se super zur professionellen Strom-Versorgung!
- Die Anschlusskabel sind üppig bemessen
- Der "Zwerg" verfügt über ein vergleichsweise riesiges Display, dass sich auch aus Entfernung gut ablesen lässt (wenn man auf der richtigen Seite steht) und intuitive Bedienung
- Die Sidus Link App wird unterstützt
- Der Stativadapter ist aus Metall gefertigt, aber läuft sehr "ruppig"
- Die Verpackung dient als praktischer Transportkoffer und ist von daher erst mal gut gemacht- wie lange er hält ... erat demonstrandum :-) - könnte aber aufgrund der gebotenen Kabellängen auch etwas großzügiger bemessen sein

Strange Downside:
Man kennt das von ungeerdeten Geräten... manchmal "britzelt" das iPhone und Co etwas .... beim Amaran tritt dieser Effekt sehr extrem auf. Aufgrund des Metalladaptes "britzelt" selbst ein Profi Manfrotto Stativ etwas ... letzteres und den Stromkreis selbst (im Studio über FI-Schutzschalter und Furman's komplett abgesichert) schließe ich als Fehlerquelle definitiv aus ... werde hierzu eine Anfrage an Thomann stellen, ob dies "normal" oder ein Einzelphänomen ist.

Update:

- Laut Thomann ist das o.g. geschilderte Problem wohl ein Einzelfall, den Thomann natürlich regelt :-)
- Der Neiger ist zwar aus Metall und macht einen wertigen Eindruck - in der Praxis hakt er leider dermaßen, dass eine präzise Lichtführung zum kleinen Abenteuer wird
- Der Vorteil der Kompaktheit reduziert sich durch den extrem eng strahlenden Minireflektor - man muss also ggf. weitere „richtige“ Reflektoren mitnehmen
- Die - glücklicherweise - langen Kabel wieder in die Transport-Box einzufädeln ist ein Alptraum :-)

Wer auf Akku-Betrieb zwingend angewiesen ist, dem würde ich das Teil gerne empfehlen. Ansonsten präferiere ich selbst z.B. den größeren 100d - der spielt dann doch - für wenig mehr Geld - in einer ganz anderen Riga :-)!
