DX2000USB professional mixer

Behringer's DX2000USB has now been on the market for over ten years, and its popularity shows no sign of waning. Nor should it - this fully-fledged, seven-channel DJ console packs a surprising number of bells and whistles, especially at this price point, and is amazingly versatile. While the DX2000 USB might not be typically found in the old school Techno or Hip-Hop scene, it is found in virtually every other setting imaginable, including bars, outdoor events, schools, clubs, and even radio shows. The combination of seven channels (which include two dedicated microphone inputs) and integrated audio interface make the DX2000USB the unequivocal Swiss-army knife of DJ consoles.

The Swiss-army knife of DJ consoles

Given the speed with which technology evolves and the new possibilities it creates, today's DJs require far more than a microphone and a couple of decks. Synths and other instruments come into play, as do analogue and digital effects, as well as multiple sound sources (laptop, turntable, and others). It takes much more than a regular two-channel mixer to be able to accommodate this number of inputs, and that is why Behringer created the DX2000USB, which can connect up to five simultaneous stereo inputs and two additional mono microphone inputs, while providing an audio interface for PC at the same time. The master output of the DX2000USB can be directly recorded onto a computer, and, going the other way, the output of DJ software can be routed straight to the digital input of the mixer.

For podcasts and events

The extensive range of applications for the DX2000USB Pro mixer makes it appealing to a wide range of DJs. It is often used for podcasts and radio shows, as regular phone or Skype calls can be quickly and easily routed directly to the console. Also, many events MCs and DJs favour the flexibility of the contact-free, optical VCA Infinium crossfader, which provides an exceptionally smooth and durable performance. A dedicated "CF Curve" control customises the tonal characteristics – and it is even possible to adjust the crossfader’s level of friction resistance according to preference.

About Behringer

The company, which was founded in Germany by Uli Behringer and now manufactures its products in China, has been known for affordable and great-value equipment since its very first product, the Studio Exciter F. An array of mixing consoles (such as the Eurodesk MX8000), signal processors, and later sound amplification and monitoring equipment, has made it possible for countless musicians to fit out their home studios, practice rooms, and mobile PAs within budget limits that were previously unthinkable. The acquisition of other companies, including Midas, Klark Teknik, and TC Electronic, meant that new product groups were added - and also resulted in the technical expertise of these companies being incorporated into product development.

A mixer for all occasions

With its five stereo inputs and two additional mono mic/line inputs, the DX2000USB can really mix it all. The two mic preamps at the inputs are Ultra Low-Noise (ULN) and feature 48V phantom power as well as a red LED to indicate clipping. Three of the five stereo channels are equipped with phono inputs and can thus accommodate up to three turntables simultaneously. And as if that weren't enough, a computer can be just as easily be thrown into the mix thanks to the integrated USB interface.

Overall, excellent, but...
ValerieB 07.04.2014
Overall, this mixer is indeed excellent. The ease of use, and simple and quick setup, are second to none that I have used.
However, I have noticed that when using it, feedback can be heard if using both microphone channels, even when one is not active. By this, I mean if connected to both microphone channels, even when one is turned off.
This is only a slight annoyance, and easily remedied, and so overall the mixer is superb; and definitely a brilliant spare mixer if not your main.

Good price to quality ratio

Behringer is a wonderful firm that produces (relatively) low cost and very solid products. Used it for mobile applciations, was always carrying it around and never had a problem with it. Nice to manage live bands or situations in which a small 2-4ch mixer is not enough.
