A very good unit

I recently moved into a new office and required a mute that could deliver more than you would expect from a silent mute. I've tried several practice mutes. The old Yamaha silent brass system was nose heavy but the Best Brass is shorter and the compact design means it virtually sits inside the bell making it less fatiguing than its rivals. It offers considerably less resistance than other 'practice' mutes and intonates very well indeed.

The headphones mean you can listen to what you are producing, even the low notes sound full. The built in reverb and volume control mean you can dial in quite a pleasant sound which can also aid with developing pitch. You can also play along with backing tracks with the aux in feature. I must say this has taken a little getting use to as the sound of your 'horn' doesn't quite translate the same as when playing without headphones. That's kind of strange because the best brass saxophone mute seems to translate the sound better.

Unlike the Best Brass Saxophone mute the Best Brass Trombone mute does not have the built in metronome but perhaps that was to keep the weight down. Overall I'm satisfied that this is currently the best practice mute on the planet but that is based on the 8 or so I have tried. The results are good, my office is directly above an entire floor of Barristers and so far they haven't complained or tried to sue me for noise pollution so I can only assume the Best Brass Mute works top notch. Its definitely way way down their on the noise metre reader I have.

If your a professional or serious student with close neighbours or on the road and need to practice in hotels/apartments you are going to need this or its non electronic equivalent.
