Beyerdynamic Amiron Home - review by a 'casual' audiophile
carlxq, 29.04.2017
I got the Amiron to replace my HD650s as my desktop/home use headphones. Open back, Hi-Fi headphones are pretty much the only type of headphones I'll use or purchase.

To start, I do not have a fancy and extravagant audio setup consisting of boutique headphone tube amps/DAC. I do not use FLAC files. I am just using a simple desktop DAC/amp (Fostex HP-A3) and most of my songs are in mp3 and m4a format with bitrate of 192 to 320 kbps, safe to say I'm not using my headphones at its fullest capacity.

Comfort and build:
A really solid construction with plush materials. Definitely built to last. Physically, it's on the heavier side but it feels light when worn. Comfortable but there's a tendency for it to slide around when you're shaking or moving your head so it does get annoying if you're physically active when gaming or rocking out to music.

Sound:
Soundstage is much roomier than the HD650s. There's a wider angle and clear and distinct separation of the different layers/instruments. One of the best I've tried. The Amiron Home is more neutral but leaning towards the 'brighter' side, it's quite analytical as well (it brings out more details) I personally don't have a preference as long as it's not extremely bright/warm.

It's a great buy but there are more "value for money" high end headphones out there. Still highly recommend it if you're willing to spend upwards of 500 euros/dollars on a pair of headphones.

Good headphone, a little too bassy for my taste and slightly overpriced
Piwemol, 06.09.2018
I never had a Beyer Headphone and I took the risk to buy this one without testing it, based on great reviews that I found on the net. I knew that I was not buying a monitoring headphone ( I already have an AKG K702) and my purpose was to have a more relaxed and "hifi" style sound. I am using it with an RME ADI-2-DAC in my home-studio and with a vintage Dual amp in my living room. Both drive the Amiron with ease, and it even works correctly when connected to an iPhone without an amplifier.
The Amiron does deliver a smooth sound as expected, but I am slightly disappointed : the bass is strong and deep, but it lacks a little control ; it is not as tight as I like. It's a matter of taste : I am not a bass freak and my home speakers are Magnepan panels, which have a bass that is not loud and boomy but is incredibly well defined. The Amiron's bass is far from the boomy vomit that comes out of headphones designed for rap fans, but still, it is not tight enough for my taste. Nevertheless, I will keep the Amiron.
Comfort is above average, but quality is a bit disappointing :
- the material of the earcups feels a little cheap,
- the minijack to jack adapter that was delivered with the Amiron, though it looked gold plated, did transfer signal only on one channel (that's ridiculous).
As a conclusion, the sound is a matter of taste and I am aware that my prefercences for light and tight bass may not be common. But overall and given the perceived quality, this headphone is overpriced.
