What a start for Boss amp line
Nael, 11.12.2017
I suddenly found my self in the market for an amp. not that there was anything wrong with my current one, but nonetheless, my one and only amp is a 21 year old Marshall JCM900 SL-X, and just a small Roland cube for practice.

so, you might imagine the feeling changing from 5881 tube amp to solid state. even with all the reviews online and video reviews you never know how it will all sound in real life without post processing which is inevitable with any upload of media online. i was nervous and anxious to say the least.

naturally i have the head running into the JCM900 Lead 1960 4 speaker cabinet (upper full stack cab with the slanted 2 top speakers), and this little Boss head drives it flawlessly. it has the natural range that just feels as an extension of your playing sound and style. even the low end push and presence of tone is amazing. obviously you'll get different results with different speaker cabs, but i think Boss might have just gotten the darn thing right that with a bit of fiddling with the gain and volumes you'll get the sound your looking for.

The built in effects are top notch being from Boss naturally, and i find the pre-set choices perfectly fitting for day to day playing and practicing. but you will eventually want to start editing your own for your sound.

now for things i hate, without the PC editing software, you'll have to just rely on the simple one knob tweak which is not a deal breaker but i never liked them, not on the Roland cube and not here. but i knew that going in for the buy.

the other thing i don't like, which i didn't expect to be as bad, is the control panel. being on top is actually a pain. if you are like me and like playing sitting down you will have to stand up to change setting and all on the amp controls. now imagine this on a 4 speaker cabinet. hence i rated the amp at 3 out of 5 starts for handling. oh, one last thing,,, the speaker built in,,, just can't see a need for it, other players might find it useful, for me, not so much.

other than those "me nit picking" things, this is an absolute great purchase at the price. i see this amp being awarded "gear of the year", "top amp at price",,, etc across guitar magazines if not already.

cheers, & play on!

Where do i even start. This is the best amp i have ever tried.

I chose the head for future expandability and i dont regret it. There are just endless options with this amp if you use the Boss tone studio.

This amp has a very "tube like" response which i was pleasantly surprised with and it also doesnt have any screens, its just pure amp and i love it. For a modeling amp the effects are actually really good but it takes pedals very well and even though its a solid state it just sounds phenomenal.

The only reason i took one star off the sound is because the 7" speaker on the head itself gets muddy and dark but lets be honest we arent going to be playing thorugh that speaker anyways. I recommend this amp to anyone who likes money and doesnt want to spend all of it on an amp.

plus it just looks cool.
