Catalinbread Adineko

This is a delay that definetely has a lot of character. If you're looking for classic delay sounds, there are better options. But for me, it gives me exactly what i expected from it after watching some videos : those dark murky delay sounds that evoque spaghetti westerns, David Lynch movies, or Neil Young (Dead man era). It works also well for modern country sounds (i.e. Neko case)

The only minor concern I might have is that turning up the viscosity control adds some annoying noise, but I don't think the real interest of the Adineko is its modulation. I rated the sound 4 stars for objectivity, but for my own use, I would rate it 5 stars.

The other controls are all useful and efficient. I especially like the reverb control, which sets the number of repeats. Some magic happens when it is set at the edge of self-oscillation. It reminds me a lot of an old Echolette tube tape echo I used to have.

The blend control is also pretty useful to create rythmic patterns.

Though it can be run at 18V for more headroom, I find it has much more character at 9V.

I run it nearly last in my pedal chain, the very last beeing a Dawner prince Boonar (echorec). Some crazy rythmic delays can be achieved by stacking the 2. I run all my pedals in front of the amp. The Adineko works well clean and after gain pedals (overdrives and fuzz).

No issue with quality so far. This is my 7th Catalinbread pedal in the last 10 years or so, never had any complaint with the brand.

Ich hatte mir ein Adinkeo und Belle Epoch sowie ein Carbon Copy bestellt und schließlich die beiden Catalinbreads behalten. Das Carbon Copy ist gut und wohl für ein analoges Delay recht "neutral". Allerdings fand ich es im Vergleich zu den anderen beiden etwas zu steif und uninspirierend. Das Belle Epoch ist verglichen mit dem Adineko etwas vielseitiger und super für alle, die ein Delay mit viel Punch suchen, das sich auch gut mit Verzerrern verträgt.

Das Adinkeo klingt da noch etwas spezieller und hat im Klangbild immer eine Note an verwaschenem Hall mit drin. Ein wirklich klares Slapback oder Multi-tap mit einer kontrollierten Anzahl von Wiederholungen lässt sich nicht verwirklichen. Auch die Modulation (Viscosity) ist bereits ab 9:00 recht heftig, so dass die sich dann eher für abgefahrene Sounds eignet. Wenn aber der Grundcharakter (der auf den Demovideos recht gut rauskommt) passt, dann ist es super. In einem Forum hatte jemand den Klang passenderweise als Wüste im Regen bezeichnet. Ich persönlich nutze es beispielsweise für Stoner Rock.

Zu beachten ist noch, dass die Delays von Catalinbread eine integrierte Vorstufe haben, die den Sound zusätzlich färbt, auch wenn der Lautstärkeanstieg über einen Trimmer im Gehäuse geregelt werden kann. Während beim Belle Epoch echoplex-mäßig Tiefmitten mit einer Höhenabsenkung dazukommen, werden beim Adineko eher hohe Mitten ein bisschen angehoben. Ob man das in einem Delay möchte und sich das dann beispielsweise gerade mit Verzerrern gut verträgt, muss jeder für selbst ausprobieren.

Die Verarbeitung kann ich nur loben. Auch wenn mir eigentlich noch kein wirklich unsolider Bodentreter untergekommen ist, spielen die von Catalinbread oder auch Himmelstrutz in einer eigenen Liga: Das recht kompakte MXR-Format, hochwertig lackiert, schwer, Metallknöpfe und Potis, die nicht allzu leichtgängig sind. Meiner Meinung nach absolut das Geld wert, wenn auch bestimmt nicht jedermanns Sache.

This pedal is amazing. Catalinbread is a really cool company, that really creates different pedals from one from other brands. To me, it is the best creator of digital effect.

This pedal is a mix between a reverb and a delay, and it really adds some mystery to your sound. It is primarily meant to be used through a clean sound / amp seeting, really embellishing the sound you will get, but it can also be used with more distortion, and you will get on the territory of David Gilmour in terms of sound (don't take my word as it is, it just reminds me a lot of his sound). I also use it after a analog reverb, and it works really well, especially on clean sound.
Moreover, it has been used for year by Richard Fortus for his clean sound.

To conclud, I really recommend this pedal if you want you clean sound to sound different, have a bit more wave to it.

Das Adineko funktioniert eigentlich auf vier Ebenen:
1. als sehr charakterstarkes Delay. Sehr eigenständig, sehr LoFi. Von Slapback bis unendlich.
2. als Reverb im weiteren Sinne. Es lassen sich Raumsimulationen. die einem Spring Reverb nicht unähnlich sind, erzeugen. Auch sehr eigenständig und stimmungsvoll, dunkel.
3. als Modulations- bzw. Vibrato Effekt. Der Viscosity Regler bestimmt den Modulationsanteil. Auch alleine gut zu gebrauchen.
4. eine Mischung von allem und allem, was dazwischen liegt.

Ein wirklich vielseitiges Pedal, weit abseits des Alltäglichen.
