A great delay and a superb pre-amp in one pedal

I use this pedal at the end of my pedalboard with the pre-amp set to "always on". Thanks to that, all my single coil equipped guitars sound so much fatter and with a little bit of crunch even at lower volume levels. Now, the pre-amp has become a part of my sound - can't live without it anymore! :)
As for delay, at first I found it hard to dial it to my liking. The repeats were too loud and too wobbly. But I found the key is to set the knobs lower than one would think. Now I have the MIX and MOD knobs around 9 o'clock and the other knobs quite low for nice slapback or the opposite way for really nice and unique soundscapes and magical ambient stuff. The repeats are rather bright and pristine, but they blend with the guitar really nicely and do not get in the way. Sometimes I stack it with another delay pedal to create some pseudo Binson Echorec multi-head sounds and it is so perfect! :)
To conclude, my first impression of the pedal as a delay was kind of "meh", but as I spent some time with it I've grown to love it. As for the pre-amp, I can't imagine not having it.

A very beautiful tape echo

It's a very musical pedal and blends well with the amp. Shines equally in front of an overdriven amp.

Ich will mich nicht in zu vielen Details bezüglich Echos und Delays verlieren und versuche mich kurz zu fassen.
Auf der Suche nach einem authentischen und brauchbaren Echosound der 50?s a`la Echoplex mit der Möglichkeit auch mal etwas "Space" zu machen, oder gar noch mehr, hatte ich im Laufe der vielen Jahre auch schon etliche Echos /Delays gespielt, ausprobiert etc., ob digital, analog oder sogar Röhre, angefangen mit Boss, Danelectro Danecho, Danelectro Reelecho, Ibanez Echomachine, Ibanez AD 9, EH Memory Man, Line 6 DL4, T-Rex Replica bis hin zu Roland RE 301 und Fulltone TTE (Tube Tape Echo).
Die einen zu steril und zu digital und leblos (keine Dynamik), die anderen zu vielseitig, kompliziert, zu groß, zu teuer oder zu unhandlich.

Was für mich als Gitarrist mit wenig Platz im Gepäck letztendlich überzeugend blieben ( d.h. leicht zu bedienen und live zuverlässig einsetzbar ) sind das Ibanez AD9, Line 6 DL4 Delay Modeler und neuerdings das Catalinbread Belle Echo.

Ich möchte hier nicht gewisse Qualitäten anderer Echos / Delays wie des T-Rex Replica, des tollen Roland RE301 ( Brian Setzer, Police) des oder gar des Fulltone TTE schmälern, aber kleine Bodentreter wie hier das Belle Epoch können diesbezüglich in puncto Fexibilität und Soundqualitäten ordentlich was vorzeigen und gegenhalten.

Mit Sicherheit gäbe es gewisse Vorzüge beim Belle Epoch, wenn der eingebaute Preamp und der True Bypass direkt ohne Gefummel und nicht erst nach Entfernen des Deckels einstellbar wären, auch wäre ein kleines Handbuch nicht ganz fehl am Platz,- trotzdem, man kann darüber hinwegkommen,
der Sound, fett, dynamisch und vielseitig entschädigt dafür, Echoplex lässt schön grüßen.

Pédale de tape delay reproduisant toutes les caractéristiques du célèbre Echoplex EP3, de son preamp à l'effet aléatoire provoquée par le mouvement de la bande. Les créateurs ont même poussé le visse à reproduire l'effet wow & flutter aléatoirement en fonction des jours!
Un must have pour qui cherche un delay à bande typé à partir de l'EP3, le vintage allié à la modernité.
