AF
Medium gauge suitable for baritone guitars
Andy Fereday 14.12.2021
I bought these for my Amrok baritone guitar and I'm really pleased with the results. The low B is slightly lighter gauge than the corresponding D'Addario baritone set but all the rest of the strings match like-for-like.

The tone is definitely quite different from standard nickel-steel strings. I'd describe it as being a bit more prominent on the bass register but you get some nice upper harmonics. It makes for quite a complex sound which isn't really easy to describe.

The flatwound nature of these strings is perfect for the higher tension of the baritone scale. Slides are much easier on the fingertips and there's none of that roundwound skin-grating effect.

Final positive to mention is that these strings are much better lasting if you have that tendency to tarnish strings just by looking at them. They also re-polish quite nicely for a bit of extra life. A good trade-off against the higher price.

One drawback to mention is that I've had a set of chrome strings on another guitar and they've actually snapped at the tuner / machine head. I've never had that happen with any other strings, it might just be that I tightened the locking mechanism too tight. Time will tell whether these suffer the same problem. It might also be that I had a faulty set or that these strings just need to be treated a bit more carefully.

Chrome flatwound strings
RichH 14.05.2020
A useful alternative flatwound jazz string set.

The TI flatwounds are great, but these are a bit smoother in feel. The wound strings are a shinier finish and last really well. I had a set on an Ibanez guitar for years that seemed as good as new despite heavy playing.

One other differnence from TI brand strings, is that that the wrappings are less thick, so you can more easily feed though tuning slots.

Summary: great jazz strings, very long lasting based on the set I had previously on my Ibanez AFJ95 guitar
