The all-in-one DJ system

Introducing the DJ SC Live 4, a new stand-alone four-channel DJ controller from Denon that has quite a few surprises in store. This new model is not merely the next generation of the Prime 4, but rather an extension of Denon's range of stand-alone DJ systems. Compared to the Prime 4, the new SC Live 4 DJ controller has a lower price tag and offers functions that have been specifically designed for a different range of applications, and while it still comes with all the renowned features of the Engine DJ software, its FX section is now located on the right-hand side of the mixer section, which has become a standard layout in most DJ mixing consoles and controllers. Thanks to their built-in speakers, Denon's new range of SC Live stand-alone controllers offers the ultimate all-in-one DJ solution. The SC Live 4 is also optimally suited to use with Serato DJ Pro on a PC thanks to the plug-and-play licence that is included in the scope of delivery.

A true performance machine

The deck sections of the SC Live 4 feature the familiar comfortable, touch-sensitive Denon jog wheels with an integrated colour LED display that directly provides the most important information about the current track alongside the data shown on the main screen. Directly below each jog wheel, the SC Live 4 provides eight performance pads with the standard functions known from other DJ controllers, i.e. hot cue, loop, roll, and slicer. The mixer section of the SC Live 4, which offers all of the classic control elements, such as level control, three-band EQ with a selectable kill function, sweep FX, and extremely smooth channel faders, has been redesigned compared to the Prime 4 in order to perfectly complement the wide range of Denon products and provide a stand-alone solution that meets just about any DJing requirement. For example, the internal channel sweep FX options include high-quality filter, noise, echo, and wash effects for creative mixing.

SC Live versus Prime 4

Probably the most striking new feature of the Denon DJ SC Live controller series are the integrated high-quality stereo speakers, which can be used as a main output or as a booth output for monitoring purposes and provide a sufficiently powerful sound for private practice sessions or small-scale basement parties, for example. If a larger audience is to be addressed, the SC Live 4 is of course best used in conjunction with an external sound system. Compared to controllers of the Prime range, the significantly slimmer SC Live 4 comes with a slightly smaller, non-adjustable 7" touchscreen and a redesigned effects section with the FX controls now being located to the right of the channel controllers to match the standard layout of most DJ mixers on the market. In contrast to the Prime 4, the SC Live 4 does not allow external players to be connected.

About Denon

The Japanese-American company Denon was founded in 1910 and established itself as a leading brand in the 1930s. It has long stood for ground-breaking technological innovations that were frequently world firsts in their time. Denon's passion for invention has produced many remarkable technologies, including the first professionally usable recording device for gramophone records (1939), the first Japanese stereo records and stereo systems (1951), and the first PCM recorder, which was based on the same principle as today's CDs (1970). In 1982, Denon launched the first CD player for home use, the DCD-2000, another milestone among its already widespread innovations. Today the company belongs to D&M Holdings Inc. and is famous for its hi-fi and DJ products.

Everything a DJ needs

The Denon DJ SC Live 4 controller offers a wide range of streaming service options, such as Beatport Link, Beatsource Link, Soundcloud, Tidal, Dropbox, and Amazon Music Unlimited, and allows personal music libraries to be accessed via its two USB ports. The SC Live 4 supports not only the designated Denon Engine DJ software but also Serato DJ Pro (plug-and-play licence included) and Virtual DJ. Mic input 1 features an XLR/jack combo socket, while mic input 2 is switchable between 6.35mm jack and stereo RCA formats, the latter being for AUX input signals. The integrated lighting mode allows various lighting devices, Nanoleafs, Phillips Hue lights, or DMX consoles to be controlled via the SC Live 4 for impressive light effects. Denon also offers the smaller SC Live 2, which has a lower price tag than the SC Live 4 but also comes with a smaller range of features: Two channels instead of four, conventional jog wheels without integrated LED displays, and a single microphone input in 6.35mm jack format without a switchable AUX input option.

Great quality and smooth, intuitive operation
25Hz 06.02.2023
Excellent value, professional level equipment.
It is smooth to operate (including the amazing turntables that have a solid yet smooth and flowing feel - much improved over another well known brand.
Highly intuitive in operation, fast response on the touch screen, well laid out, effects are well considered, also good layout and intuitive in operation. Personally I find it maintains sync better than the main competitor.
The bonus of DMX lighting control - I have already used this feature and it is flawless.
The only downside is no USB on top - but I simply use a deskside extension to make this easier.
In all, highly recommended.

I´m happy with this purchase. All my life I have used Pioneer controllers, not anymore. Denon is way to go. No more problems with usb sticks and file formats like old days.
