An exciting and inspiring surprise!
aZu, 13.12.2020
Looking for a bass preamp mainly for home recordings I came across this one from Eden which, for its all-in-one features and the inviting price offered by Thomann, caught my attention. After looking at some reviews on the internet and youtube, I decided to give it a chance.
I've been using the Eden's Terra Nova 'Module' for three weeks now (after perfect order handling and shipping service, usual Thomann style), with different basses, active and passive - with or without on-board preamplifier but also with active or passive pick ups - and I am quite satisfied with my choice.
During this period I’ve use it for home recordings and daily practice, also linking it to my pedals rig and using it as a stand alone unit as well as playing it together with a power amp + cabinet.

MATERIALS AND FUNCTIONALITY:
Very tough metal casing, footswitches smartly positioned along the angled front of the module to prevent any unwanted kicking of the unit's pots. I really like this! …even if for the moment I’m using it on the desk, next to audio interface, keyboard, etc.. ; ) It even has a non-slip rubber pad on the base: lovely!
Each footswitch has its own led indicating if that part of the circuit is engaged or not. Same for Compressor and Bass Boost options. Input Gain and Master Output pots as well, have their own led indicating signal clipping. I find it a simple, essential and perfectly effective LED indication system.
The solid pots, nicely coated with rubber, with their stable play allow very precise control and provide excellent response of the circuit throughout their rotary running.
The plastic buttons that activate the Compressor and the Bass Boost on the other hand are small and plasticky and do not seem at all in line with the professional level impression of the units. Looking at the overall quality of the other controls and materials used in building the module, I am a little surprised of this choice by Eden….however, they do their job!
The back panel provides all the needed features. Personally, for every different use I think I will do with this preamp, I could not wish for more.
By using the included power supply, I have noticed that the DC polarity switch indications printed on the panel, on the sides of the switch, should be inverted and/or the same indications in the user manual corrected accordingly.
When using the Auxiliary IN and/or the Headphones OUT, remember to connect devices that have the right impedance compatibility with the Eden unit, to get the right signal levels and/or avoid any distortion (for those unfamiliar with electrical impedance, you can easily find the explanations you need on the internet!).

SOUND:
The overall impression is simply excellent!
The Input Gain pot and the Master Output pot, as all the other potentiometers, provide a very precise gradual control.
The whole EQ section allows a wide operation on the whole spectrum of frequencies set in the circuit, with a lot of headroom for boosting or cutting, but without ever causing bad results, even in the most extreme settings.
Great control of Bass and Treble, always a great sound, really amazing!
With the Low Mid and the Hi Mid semi-parametric section I think that all the possible needs of sound sculpting can be very satisfactorily covered, with any kind of bass guitar.
The excellent functioning of the whole EQ section, the semi-parametric of the mid frequencies (at some point you would even want to ask for a full parametric, with the addition of the Q control - the amplitude of the action bell around the centre frequency on which you want to work), almost reminds me to the EQ section of a channel on a high end mixing console.
The Bass Boost switch provides a very balanced boost that adds a juicy punch to the lows.
The on board switchable Compressor provides quite effective control over dynamics, but without ever being too invasive and without flattening the sound. A present but discreet friend. It is not possible to change any parameter of the compressor, but I find that Eden has set it up in the circuit very cleverly, obtaining a very balanced and musical solution.
The switchable ENHANCE (EQ) function surprises me more than positively. As indicated by Eden, it simultaneously boosts very low bass, upper middle and high frequencies, while cutting the lower mid frequencies. With all my different basses, this ready-to-use EQ set up sounds very good just by keeping all the other EQ controls set as flat, then I can reshape and refine the sound further to my needs, depending on the specific situation.
Very useful in conjunction with some effects pedals (octaver, synth, envelope filter) to get a more biting sound that makes the effects better working.
I like this ENHANCE filter setup so much (L-O-V-E-I-T) that I think I will use it a lot without correcting it at all but also as preferred starting point for other, more detailed EQ setups. As with the compressor, I think that Eden has integrated a clever, useful and very musical tool with this EQ feature.

This is my first EDEN’s product (an I confess that I’ve just discovered this brand… but on their website they claim themselves as working since 1976!!) and I am super positively impressed with the build and sound quality. For future needs about power amps and/or cabinets I will for sure take a look to this brand.

Very practical and good pNireamp bass modem.

Absolutely surprising quality for low price. Improve the tone with many possibilities, easy for use, allowed you to keep your basic tone everywhere with you. It works also good in combination with the pedal board. Very handy for home practice in combination with headphones and aux input.

First DI/EQ/preamp pedal I own
shhx, 26.10.2020
I saw the price drop and jumped it immediately. I was looking forward to buy a preamp pedal for a while now and I'm more than satisfied with this product. The tonal diversity is outstanding considering the few knobs that this pedal has, compared to other preamp pedals. And is built like a freaking brick!

A few small comments though, I wish it comes with a drive option and is quite a big pedal, so be careful if you plan to put this on a pedalboard.

Dissapointing
ribbetingfrog, 13.11.2020
I’ve heard others talking this up and for the price it seems like a no brained.
Thing is, as much as I try, I can’t find a tone I’m happy with.
And I’ve tried a lot.
Been using it into my bands pa, into my daw at home and as a headphone amp for practice.
Used it with my 51 p bass, Ibanez sr700 and Musicman cutlass.
I spend all my time trying to adjust my sound and very little playing.
It’s always too dark sounding.
I like a bright sound and this never gets near.
Always a sub par bass tone that never sounds alive to me. Always flat and lifeless.

It’s an ok headphone amp for the price but I’d much prefer most other things if available.

Plus points... it’s really well built, really well laid out and feels top quality.

It’s going to be my spare preamp at the studio in case I forget my pedalboard, which I hope I don’t.
