Very portable but too bare-bones.
Ervin0, 13.03.2018
This is a very useful piece of gear if you need a very portable amp or a back-up for your main amp. The downside is that the power supply is actually bigger than the amp itself. The amp has only a volume knob and a toggle for extra brightness. An standby switch would have been useful.
Soundwise, there is an evident lack of high end which is insufficiently compensated for by the bright switch. There is enough volume for rehearsals or gigs when using the amp with a 4x12 cab. However, clean headroom is pretty lacking, the amp starts to break up before getting the volume up to 12 o'clock with medium output humbuckers. On the plus side, the sound character is pleasant and lends itself nicely to overdriven tones.
If you don't need crystal clear tones and you shape your tone mainly from the pedalboard or processors, this is a decent small amp.

Power Amp in your hand...
18.02.2015
I had playing with the idea of getting one of these EH Magnum 44's for quite a while, initially as a backup in case my amp blew at a gig. The convenience of having a replacement amp in the gig bag is very reassuring...simply connect from the pedal board to the input of the Magnum and then out to the speakers of the amp..(NOT to the input of the amp!!!)

It is very loud! I have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and anyone who has one knows what it's like at around 1 to 3 on the volume pot...well the Magnum is the same. Make sure you keep the volume down before you plug it in and raise the volume gradually. Be sure to read the instructions for the Magnum before even plugging it in. It is a very simple to operate device but if you connect it up wrong you can wreck something.

The Bright/Normal switch is handy for giving a little more presence when required.

I have now also used it to create a stereo setup with the guitar signal from the last pedal in the chain being a Stereo Delay ...into the Hod Rod Deluxe on one side and the Magnum into a 1x12 on the other .. each amp set at opposite sides of the stage...awesome spread.

I love it, Thank You Electro Harmonix :-)
