Far more than just a streaming deck

The Elgato Stream Deck MK2 is a universal controller that can be adapted to the user's individual needs with remarkable freedom. Originally designed for streaming video content live via platforms like YouTube and Twitch, the hardware is also ideal for controlling creative programmes, networking tools, and DAW software. Thanks to a simple folder structure, the 15 LCD keys can be freely assigned with keyboard shortcuts, special functions, or even entire chains of commands. In order not to lose track of all this flexibility, predefined or customised icons or thumbnails can be displayed on each key, which allows the user to work intuitively and efficiently on their own music, video, or design projects.

Highly customisable

The use of keyboard shortcuts is essential for a good workflow, and not only when working with a DAW. With the included software, it is possible to assign any conceivable key combination, no matter how complex, to a single LCD key on the Stream Deck MK2. In addition, other actions such as starting programmes, opening websites, or sending a social media post can also be triggered. The keys can also be used as folders in which any number of actions can be collected. Button layouts can be saved as profiles, whereby the controller automatically switches to the corresponding profile depending on the active software. Speaking of "switching": The front panel of the Stream Deck MK2 is removable and customisable, and Elgato also offers faceplates in a range of designs.

For streamers, producers, and other creators

Thanks to its universal concept, the Elgato Stream Deck MK2 is suitable for use with any software that can be controlled via keyboard shortcuts - and this of course applies to all available DAWs, including Apple Logic, Ableton Live, Steinberg Cubase, Avid Pro Tools, and Presonus Studio One. Users who work with complex software in other creative areas besides music production can also use the Stream Deck for image or video editing, for example, while the Stream Deck is virtually a must-have for ambitious streamers, for whom this compact device becomes a powerful control centre for image, sound, light, music, and more.

Time-saving workflow facilitation

Compared to the previous version, the Elgato Stream Deck MK.2 offers a more stable base with a fixed angle, a detachable USB cable, and a customisable front panel. So while only details have been improved on the outside, the Stream Deck's functionality is more impressive than ever thanks to the constantly evolving software and continuous succession of new plugins. Whether transport commands in a DAW software, controlling music services such as Spotify, flicking on smart lighting, fading in a screen presentation in an online meeting, or carrying out complex multi-actions (macros) across several applications - the possibilities are almost endless.

About Elgato

The Elgato brand was launched in 2002 by the German company Elgato Systems as a private label by Markus Fest in 1992 and has its headquarters in Munich. Elgato manufactures consumer electronics with a focus on video streaming. The company's portfolio includes several capture cards via which audio and video output signals can be recorded and transmitted to computer screens, as well as accessories and software for the same field of application. Elgato products are designed in Germany and in California and are sold in over 80 countries. As of July 2018 Elgato is owned by Corsair Components, where it will continue to operate as an independent brand.

In the spotlight: The Stream Deck software

The Stream Deck software can be downloaded free of charge from the Elgato website and is available for Mac and Windows. It allows users to customise the controller down to the smallest detail by assigning new functions and icons to each button with just a few clicks. A button in the software also provides access to the Stream Deck Store, which offers useful extensions for the Stream Deck. These include over 100 plugins for all kinds of applications, creative icon packages from professional graphic designers, video tutorials, informative articles, and more. The absolute highlight, however, is the gigantic library of licence-free audio tracks and sound effects of all imaginable categories, with which live streams and videos can be enhanced with a soundtrack without the risk of copyright infringement.

The StreamDeck is a companion in all situations
Rashid Altamimi 14.10.2022
I actually only got it to stream. Now I use the Streamdeck for recording in Cubase, for gaming, and to start and close Windows functions such as browser pages or various programs. Shutting down the computer is also a breeze. There are many plugins that make even more of it. It is also possible to monitor from a Pi-Hole.

Last but not least, I give a clear buy recommendation. The StreamDeck is a companion in all situations.
