New push / pull booster

The EMG Afterburner (the name has nothing to do with the pleasure of Pepperoni, but is really hot) is equally suitable for active as well as passive pickups and offers an uncoloured boost, which can be continuously adjusted up to 20 dB boost. It is particularly interesting if you want to switch the distortion to the distorted lead sound simply from the guitar and to convert a good sounding but distorted tube amp to the Gainmonster without changing the basic characteristics of the Amp sound by distortion pedal.

  • Up to 20 dB controllable output power
  • For all sounds
  • For all EMG and passive pickups

Clean boost with a bit of mid/bass top
Jackson99 24.04.2021
I paired this with an EMG81 in the bridge and an SA in the neck. Solder-less installation is easy for this but a PAIN for everything else (pickups, switches etc.) Also, EMG schematics are really poor. I read reviews that the AB thins the sound...Actually, I start to think the guys who reviewed it didn't install it properly. This thing boosts a clean tone straight to heavy overdrive, with some mid/bass top up so the sound gets a bit darker. So, when you boost a thick, tight gain tone, it just slays :) On full boost, you have sustain for ever in your leads. Otherwise, you can go for an "always-on" around 6-7 to have all the gain you ever wanted, and even setup your basic tone to be Midler. I didn't notice a jump up in noise ( I do have a gate always on for dirty tones) when activating the AB. Worth the money.

EMG afterburner review
JesperCFC 15.08.2013
easy to install with emg's new clip in set up, not so easy to install if you have a set of pickups that require soldering but it can still be done.
i kitted out an old epiphone gothic explorer with an emg 81tw and this afterburner. the afterburner does add tones of gain but i ended up treating it like an overdrive pedal, set the amp to clean and push the natural distortion.
it is a great product that i enjoyed using but after a while i did remove it from the guitar as it wasnt quite tonally what i was after.
nothing against the product it just wasnt my thing.
was good to push lead lines and solos above the rest of the band mix too, worked really well for that

A useful boost if you want freedom from your pedal board.
Nice to have the boost being adjustable too.
