Amazing Quality Compressor - pricey , but you pay for what you get !
Naf174, 03.09.2019
If you are looking for the ultimate in pedal size compressor quality then look no further than the Empress compressor. (Well maybe an origin Cali76 could compare but thats another conversation for another time ! .. ) .
The Empress really is up there though with the best on offer.
Totally transparent if required , but also it can squish with the best of them as needed due to the selectable Ratio switching and input level knob.
Tone wise it absolutely does not affect your original tone in any way , there is ZERO loss on the top end like so many other compressors can cause.
It is very versatile and has all of the controls you would need including a very handy Mix knob which allows you to blend back in as much of your original tone as you like i.e. "Parallel Compression" .
There is also a very handy LED strip for visual indication of gain reduction , input level , or both as selectable by the meter switch.
It is absolutely quiet by comparison to other compressors I have tried in the past , of course not completely silent , as due to the nature of compressors they all tend to add a little noise.
The footswitch on the unit by the way however is completely silent and is of the soft feel type .
The only cons really are the price and its slightly on the bigger side.
Not as big as you would think by looking at the pictures online , but due to the landscape layout of the pedal and the side jacks it does take up quite a bit of real estate on a pedal board
I have seen it argued maybe that this pedal is perhaps a little bland or "Sterile" as it really does not colour your tone in anyway . Indeed some compressors do add a little EQ to warm the tone ,which some people might tend to prefer , so maybe bear that in mind if thats more your kind of thing before buying this pedal

Great, clean sounding compressor that retains your instruments tone
Fred739, 09.04.2018
This compressor has it all and does what you need it to do with pristine sound clarity. I use it for both guitar and bass. I find that it retains the natural sound of your instrument. You can have subtle compression to that obvious choking compression and everything in between. It can take some time to get the knobs set up to the right combination for your instrument but once you get a feel for how they respond, I find I just leave the attack and release at the same setting, then just adjust the input and output knobs if I change instrument. As there are only 3 compression ratio settings: 2, 4, 10; the mix knob is great, as you can blend in a bit of the input signal, if say for instance you have compression at 4 and you think it's slightly over compressing. The dual LEDs are great to give an indication of what's going on with both input level and actual compression taking place; great if you don't 100% trust your ears and want some visual feedback.
