Fender Pure Vintage Jazzmaster PU Set - Good upgrade
LeonardS 11.01.2019
I got myself a Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster as the price was right, but after having played it for a while I was only partly satisfied with the Seymour Duncan Designed stock pick-ups. I was looking for the sound I remembered way back when I was very young and decided to try the Fender Pure Vintage Jazzmaster set as the reviews on the internet and Thomann's customers were overall very positive.
When I started the conversion it took some close looking at the diagram in the box to figure out which was the neck and bridge pickup. A small label on each pick-up would have helped a lot. In any case the replacement of the pick-ups went without a problem, just a little bit of work as all strings have to come off in order to remove the pick guard and solder the leads onto the appropriate points.
Once I plugged in the guitar with the new pick-ups I was pleased by the sound. If my memory serves me well, this was the sound I remembered from way back in the late sixties.
My Squier is now a Jazzmaster, not a Stratocaster nor Telecaster. I am happy with these pick-ups and have no regrets concerning the upgrade.

The sound
Motherspot 17.01.2021
of these Fender Pure Vintage Jazzmaster PU's is excellent. Much better than the Roswells on the Harley Benton HB JA-60 OW i replaced them with. The Roswells were a bit dull sounding after a while and the Fenders give it the Jazzmaster chime. A great buy. Installing them on this guitar is very easy. Just look where the old PU's are connected and put the Fender's in place. Put some foam tape under PU's for adjusting the height. the measurements are the same. The guitar is now very much to my liking. I did sand down the fat neck a bit to make it slimmer and now with the new PU's it became a really good sounding and playing guitar. Totally worth the upgrade! Love it!

Finest set of pickups I've ever played
Anonymous 25.08.2016
I bought this set to drop into an MIJ Jazzmaster and remain astonished at this difference.

I was expecting better tone, as the Japanese pickups' reputation is quite bad. But the neck pickup in these '65s is particularly sweet and I'd happily play an entire gig on just that setting.

The humbucking centre position is also very flexible: plenty of gain and texture when needed, and this guitar handles all sorts of pedals and effects with ease. It's a joy to play and hear.

Kudos to Fender: this is the finest set of pickups I've ever played and I can't recommend it more highly.

Which one is which?
Arles 29.06.2021
For the starters - I am quite good with guitar electronics and I have installed pickups and made modifications to guitars electric systems. With those pickups I had problem to identify which is neck or bridge pickup. DC resistance is almost the same and the rating varies with temperatures and so on. The sound is great, and although I most probably installed bridge pickup to neck and vice versa my Jazzmaster still sounds freaking awesome.
