Compact, affordable, and easy to connect

The Fun Generation PL 110 A is an active full-range loudspeaker with a particularly large woofer for this price point; it is also the second smallest of the PL series, which is squarely aimed at beginners. But the size of the integrated speakers is not the only difference between the four models: Like all the speakers in the PL series, the PL 110 has a built-in media player with USB input, SD card slot, and Bluetooth interface, which can be used as an alternative to a line-in. However, the PL 110 – like its little brother, the PL 108 – has one microphone and one AUX input, as well as volume and equaliser buttons integrated into the media player, instead of – like the larger PL 112 and PL 115 models – two microphone inputs with XLR and jack sockets. All models are equipped with a speaker twist output for a passive speaker, so that an additional speaker can be integrated into an existing sound system.

Media player included

The Fun Generation PL 110 A has so many ways of playing music that it will turn any house party into a night at the club. The media player built into back of the unit can be used to access an SD card, and besides its little keypad it can also be operated remotely, making MP3 and WAV files an option too. The Bluetooth interface, of course, is also ideal for playing music from a smartphone, although users can also connect their music source to the 3.5mm mini-jack socket, the volume of which can be adjusted separately. A dynamic microphone can be connected to the XLR input. Whatever the source, after the signal has passed through a two-band equaliser in the master section, the 10" bass speaker and 1" compression driver go to work. If the levels are too high, there is a dedicated clipping LED. The entire package generates a maximum sound pressure level of 109dB and weighs 7.8kg (17.1lbs).

For DJing and live music

The Fun Generation PL 110 A is a beginners' speaker suitable for very small venues – for audiences and for monitoring – at an almost unbeatable price. Its extensive connectivity makes it equally at home in the living room or in schools, and its numerous inputs will provide every guest at social gatherings the chance to share their favourite songs with everyone. And thanks to the AUX output, it can even be used for recording small bands' first gigs. On top of that, there is a microphone input for MCing, or indeed for longer presentations: This fanless speaker is so quiet that it's easy to focus on what is being said. Of course, solo entertainers can connect both a keyboard and a vocal microphone. And to bring the speaker up the right height for audiences who are mostly on their feet, it can be placed on an optional stand (a speaker cover, also sold separately, is available too, for protection while on tour).

About Fun Generation

Since 1999, the products of Thomann's house brand Fun Generation have been an integral part of the store's range. These products, which are made by renowned companies who also manufacture products for other well-known brands, provide a convincing combination of quality and reliability at reasonable prices. The product range includes music stands and other hardware, Bluetooth speakers, LED spotlights, moving head lighting systems, and complete active PA sets as well as LED effects, microphone pickup systems, cables, and splitters. Price-conscious customers in the field of lighting and stage technology are sure to find what they are looking for in this extensive product range, which includes over 160 items.

Party in the house

Users celebrating a birthday at home or in their garden can really get the party swinging by using a Fun Generation Speaker Stand to elevate the speaker. Then, all they need to do is connect a laptop to the stereo cinch input, freeing up the PL 110 A's media player so that guests can play music from their smartphones via Bluetooth. For announcements and the like, a simple dynamic microphone would be a neat addition. And to get more sound out on the dancefloor, the matching Fun Generation PL 110 P speaker – the 110's passive cousin – can be connected to the speaker twist output, which, while not creating a stereo signal, will evenly split the sound spatially.

Needs a different woofer for professional use
Marklee 18.09.2021
What I like: very lightweight and sturdy, good control of the sound through onboard tone controls, combo jacks. I bought two along with a Mackie mixer for a low-volume Americana combo. That was years ago and I still use them. BUT....
What I don't like at all: The speaker distorts when set at more than half its volume range -- an ugly distortion. In its useable range it's still loud enough for an outdoors show for 50 people, with a trio of electric guitar and mic'd percussion plus vocals, but you are quite limited instead of liberated by the gear. I hoped the problem would go away when the speakers broke in, and I was wrong. If I had it to do over, I would buy better branded speakers, despite the fact that the better ones weigh more.
Update: after years of trying to work with these speakers, I opened one up yesterday to chase down the rattle. I found several loose screws (poor quality control), tightened them and removed a couple that bizarrely served no function. Ran the speaker with the cab open, and realized the problem came from the woofer. It's really garbage -- small magnet, WAY too small for the power rating. It could not handle the line out signals from my amps without distorting in an ugly way. I put in a quality 8OHM woofer I had lying around, and it transformed the device: more power, clarity and tone. I'll replace the woofer on the other one too. If you go this path, be careful to install a woofer with a relatively low profile, because there's not much room in there. I reaffirm: The better path would be to buy a brand that doesn't require surgery in the first place. The replacement was not complicated, but it was certainly tedious.

The bass is a very big problem for this speaker... You can use it as a monitor or just for garden parties like I did.
What I liked the most was that it has a lot of functions: Bluetooth, sd card slot, USB etc.

The destination of these speakers would be the sound of mornings in schools, outdoor meetings, parties, karaoke. Having an input for microphone, bluetooth 5.0, aux / line in, mp3 player but also another output for a passive speaker (example 110P) makes it a very good choice, especially at this price! Enjoy the presence of several presets for aqualizer and separate adjustment for treble / bass, but still, it would be necessary to adjust for the midrange.

Great solution for home use
Martin T. 705 01.05.2020
I use this to jam with the band. We run the vox and the drum machine through a mixing desk into this. I have also used it to try out vox ontop of mp3s from other bands. For this it is great as you can plug in an SD card and it has an internal MP3 player that works well. Guess it could be good for kareoke also. It has a remove also but generally I just set it and run. It presents nice clear defined sound and the tone controls are useable. The only time it fails is when you bang heavy bass through it the bass speaker cannot handle a real heavy boom but if you back off a bit on the bass it works. You do get bass but not rib cage shaking bass.
For the price it does a great job.
