There are problems, and apparently no support
RensT, 23.11.2017
I bought this unit to augment a platform M which I have been using for a year. I want to like this; the hardware quality is good. But it is tremendously let down by:
- software issues
- complete lack of tech support

First the good: the unit is a great size, the platfrom D2 display is a good add-on and it the right size and aligns nicely over the fader banks. Everything feels good and solid. The faders are (relatively) quiet. From a hardware design perspective, this gets high marks.

Now the very very bad:

First, my setup: I have been using a platform M for a year with no problems; it works well with Logic pro X and with Ableton Live 9. Its running firmware 1.03 and it has a platform D attached. I run these on a Mac.

I acquired platform X+ to use with it. The X+ is running X+ firmware 1.01. There are problems:
- The scribble strip on the display is not updating consistently.
- there is no firmware on the iconproaudio website to upgrade to. In fact, the X+ does not even appear on the website for driver downloads.
- there is no response from the company for a week despite repeated emails and posts to their message board and facebook page.

Here are the details of the scribble strip problem:
On Ableton, set up as a mackie extender, it basically remains blank and does not display the track info or anything.
On Logic, set up as a mackie extender, it displays the track info on startup, but then does not keep it updated accurately; for instance, if I rename a track in logic which is mapped on the M, the name changes on the scribble strip. If its mapped on the X+, the name does not change on the scribble strip.
The faders and the pan knobs on the X2 work fine in extender mode; its just the display that it not working correctly.

So I tried is as two mackie controls (theplatform M and the X+), rather than one control and one extender

Logic:
If I set up the Platform X+ in Logic as a 'mackie control' alongside the platform M which is also 'mackie control' it works properly; scribble strips stay synched.
If I set up the platform X+ as 'mackie control extender' with the platform M in 'mackie control' then the scribbe strip does not work.

Live
- If I set up both the platform M and the platform X+ in live as a 'MackieControl' the platform X+ works with the scribble strip correctly, but both it and the platform M are controlling the same channels.
pressing 'bank' or 'chan' on the platform M switches the view on the platform M, but not on the X

- If i set up the platform M as MackieControl and the platform X+ as MackieControl XT, then the faders and pan pots work correctly but the D2 screen does not.

Because I know my live and logic installations are fine (I also have actual Mackie MCU Pro adn MCU Pro XT which I am trying to replace with the two Icon units) I can only assume the firmware on the X+ is not correctly supporting mackie protocol as a mackie control extender.

To my distress, there is no response from technical support.

There you have it; a potentially great unit spoiled by (1) poor quality software (2) obvious lack of testing and (3) absolutely no response from support.

Unless I hear back from them, this is going back to thomann and I will be giving up on Icon altogether; life is too short.

I use it as extender for platform m+ with Reaper..
Very nice looking... Nice to have, not noisy, simple to set up... I would never use it alone, and only with display whic makes it pricey...
