A beast of a stand
SamNG41 15.06.2019
I see a lot of bass trombonists using tenor trombone stands. I did so myself for years but eventually decided it was time to get a stand designed for my instrument of choice.
Having used the K&M 14985 for years, I already knew that this stand would disappoint in terms of quality.
The part that the bell rests on is made of wood with felt, unlike the tenor trombone versions which are rubberised. I’ve used it which 9.5” and 10.5” bells with no problems.
The height of the stand can be adjusted to well beyond what you would need for a modern bass trombone. I guess that this is to accommodate the older G bass trombones.
The stand is extremely heavy if you’ve been used to the tenor trombone equivalents but that weight provides reassurance that it will support your instrument securely with no problems.
I would say that this stand is an absolute necessity if you play a more expensive trombone, especially those featuring Hagmann or Thayer valves. For example, I’ve found that this is the only trombone stand that can support (and that I trust with) my Getzen bass trombone with Thayer valves when playing outdoors or on cramped stages.
My only criticism is that, with the support being wood, it can be damaged/chipped when in storage. It would be ideal if K&M made a bag to help protect the stand and also aid in transport of such a heavy item.

An amazing trombone stand

After acquiring this stand, I ended using only this one even for my King 2B and cannot think of trusting any other stand.

Optimal für Bass- & Contrabassposaunisten
Ralf555 30.03.2013
