Line6 Relay G30

The Line6 G30 Relay is an all round inexpensive guitar and bass wireless system that performs as good as any system the market has to offer. It delivers clarity of tone without delay and no audible loss of tonal quality at any venue anywhere.
I have used this system for my bass for many years now as have my fellow band members for their guitars with no issues to note.
Having recently purchased two more transmitters so each bass has one ready to go at the side of the stage when needed.
Flawless transition between guitar changes, simply turn off the one your using, change the guitar and switch on the new one - as simple as that.
Have thought of upgrading to a different system a few times but have no valid reason to do so as these perform so reliably in all conditions.
Weather on your amp or as I do, have it on my effects board so I can monitor signal strength it has never let me down be it small humid indoor stages or large cold and windy outdoor festival stages.
Neatly designed and simple to use it looks great on a pedal board. The only floor I have to point out is the transmitter clip. Needs to be removed if using a holder and isn't the greatest design if using the clip. They always break off. Even when removing the mounting following manufacturers instructions the clip holder breaks but this is just one tiny inconsequential flaw. They've all gone on mine.
I would recommend this system not only to anyone wanting to try a wireless system for the first time as it is inexpensive and delivers a professional sound well above what you would expect to pay for one, but for those wanting to upgrade this system packs a punch well above its weight.

I use this on my yamaha electric bass. I tried fm- types but ended up sending them back because they seemed to have a slight hiss and I felt they changed my sound too much. This G30 seems not to effect my sound at all- at least that I have noticed so far and despite digital processing I can't detect any delay. There is a switch to imitate a length of cable but I don't use that. I have had no connection problems so far despite this thing sharing an already crowded wifi frequency band- although I don't ask audience members if their wifi connection is working ok- :-) It uses multiple frequencies to ensure a solid signal and can be set to mode 1 or 2. I have the base station mounted on my pedal board- with a double power lead from a multiple power supply It seems to work ok just with 125mA but I use the double cable giving the rated 200mA. The transmitter pack is hooked onto my guitar strap and held in place with crossed velcro straps. It's well attached and the door can't open with the velcro over it. It's easy to lift one of the velcro straps to change the batteries. One side of the transmitter is a huge rubber pad- giving a very solid feeling. The battery door on the other side does not seem very solid so I am always careful to pull the latch back when closing it. The jack socket seems good. I find the supplied cable a little stiff but it's a good length so I am still using it. So far no problems what-so-ever, just a reliable link to my pedal board. The base station has lights to show signal quality and battery strength. Definitely digital is the way to go- highly recommended!

I bought the Line6 Relay G30 in March ´11 and it still works as good as on the first day.
The Line6 uses the 2,4Ghz frequency to transmit the guitar signal to your amp.
Although the cases of the transmitter and receiver are made of plastic they don't make a bad impression. The power adapter is very good.
The G30 has 6 Channels to use, so if your bands member want to use it too, it wouldnt be a problem at all.
Some facts that I realized in this time:
I always could trust in the batterie status display. So if your batterie is going to stop working, it will show you .
The Cable tone simulator is not a must have. I don't use it all, works for me fine without the simulation.
I only use rechargeable cells, to save money und the environment. But the problem is with those cells, that they are obviously a little bit taller and thicker than normal batteries. So its pretty hard to close the batterie case because it is very small measured. However, it works , its only a little tricky.
If you want to use the G30 at home, make sure to choose the right channel. Some channels disturb the WLAN connection because it sends signals on 2,4GHz too. But I always found a channel, so WLAN and G30 work fine with each other.

The performance on the stage is good, never had range problems or any other problems at concerts.
I also couldn't hear a difference between cable or G30.
In future I will buy some transmitter, so I have the opportunity to use my 3 guitars with one system.
So if you need a stable and trustworthy system, go and buy it.

I couldn't decide which Line 6 wireless to purchase, but after trying out a few belonging to friends I opted for the G30. Why?

? It uses AA batteries for a start. No ?5 9v batteries every 2 gigs! Plus, the receiver shows not only the signal strength, but also the battery strength on the body pack. I wish the Sennheiser unit I replaced had that for the last 10 years I was using it!

? It uses a standard jack to jack for the bodypack. No fiddly little mini xlrs, or custom 4 pole micro connectors to panic about needing a second. If this one breaks, just grab any half metre instrument cable, and you're sorted.

? It's damn easy to find a free channel. Keep the bodypack off, and turn the receiver on. It'll show you the channels where it's picking up normal WiFi and Bluetooth, and the ones that aren't. Takes all of 30 seconds.

The bad? People moan about the battery hatch, and the belt clip. I can see the belt clip eventually giving way, but for me I keep the transmitter in a little leather pouch on my strap so it shouldn't be an issue. The battery hatch I can only see being an issue if you're an oaf. People are probably pushing it closed and hoping the clip will self secure. Bad idea. Probably the same people who pull up a car's handbrake without holding the button in so you can hear the click-click-clicks. Close the hatch while keeping the clip open, then let go of the clip so it closes gently. You'll get a lifetime out of it.

Great unit, amazing price point. One last irk is that it comes with an EU adaptor even if you're in the UK. I power mine off a T-Rex Chameleon Fuel Tank so it solves that issue, but no harm to be aware of it.

I bought this last summer, the finish is spotless, it stays connected for a fair distance, the cable length simulation is usefull but I don't notice any diferente form having it off, the way the transmiter attaches could defenitly be improved I secure it to my guitar strap using the built in holder and two seperate zip ties to be sure it won't fall seeing that the replacement transmiter costs almost half of the total cost, the batery holding compartmente could also be improved or you could just stick an extra zipp tie to make sure the batteries don't move around, the supplied cable is not practical but you can get a replacement and use it as a patch cable instead, the transformer is good and everything is incredibly well packed, the best wireless for people that don't want to waste a lot of money on one and like to run around on stage without pulling or tripping on cables

When your equipment can fit on a pedal board and you don't really need amps, the G30 is a perfect solution when you're getting a wireless system. Just put it on the pedalboard and thrash away. No drop outs or failing sound curves (bass players tend to miss the lower bass frequencies when using wireless systems).

But... The transmitter is made of plastic and the battery compartment hatch tends to open up if you move around as a musician. I had to tape the hatch on my transmitter to make sure it didn't pop up in the middle of a song and kill my sound. That's a big minus on this model. The G50 and G90 has MUCH better design on the transmitter, since you can lock the battery hatch on those. I now own a G90.

I finally moved away from cables fairly recently and was recommended the Line 6 G30 and G50.
I didn't have the budget to justify the extra £100.00 for the metal cased G50 neither did my bandmates so we all opted for the G30.

Previous reviews have drawn attention to the fragility of the transmitter, particularly the beltclip and battery cover and they are very much right to do so as they are clearly the weakest structural area in the whole set up. You will need to take care of the transmitter, it's not going to survive much abuse.
My bandmates keep the transmitters in their pockets whereas I opted for a cheap Wireless holster.

In use in 2 minutes, that's all it took to unwrap and set up this thing, plug and play doesn't do its simplicity justice. 7 channels gives plenty of options.

The transmitter is also excellent and can easily fix on many pedal boards (which is what we do). It needs a fair whack of current (200mA) but can be powered by many power supplies, mine was a bit short of the magic 200mA and worked fine in many situations but I did find I got noise in one venue that was solved by going back to the proprietary PSU.

Range is good, easily got 20m+ indoors with a few obstacles too.

TLDR
Stupidly easy to use, decent price just don?t abuse that transmitter!
