Good for a number of applications

We purchased a pair of the SRM550's as we required some general purpose speakers that could be used for small gigs, DJ setups and monitor duties.
They perform well in all situations and with an added SRM sub are well capable.
Easy to set up but have to be careful on the gain settings on the inputs, these are very sensitive as they have to handle anything from a mic to line level input, line level is only at '9 o'clock' and not 12 o'clock' as one might expect.
Light and easy to handle.
Cons - when used in monitor duties, all the rear controls are fairly exposed and could be easily accessed if too near stage edges.
The noise floor with no signal (connected or not) is far too high, this prevents use in corporate gigs as it is clearly audible. It would be nice if some sort of gate was included in the signal chain maybe to stop this annoying 'feature'.

C
extremely high noise floor

Overall i am very pleased with the speakers, they are loud and the limiter is very good at stopping them from being blown up !
my biggest issue is the noise they make when no music is being played, or even light music. it is extremely noticeable to the ear, it is also not because of dirty AC power, these speakers would get 5 stars apart from this issue.

Bad built quality
Anonymous 14.06.2016
I purchased a pair of these speakers in November 2015.
I couple of weeks ago the bass stopped working with one of the speakers. After returning the speaker. I was told that it was caused by impact and was not covered by warranty. I have never once dropped the speaker and only couple of minor knocks during transportation. I had to pay for the repair. Do not believe the promise that Mackie claims "Built like a tank". My Makie 450's are better built quality. Also do not expect an upgrade from your 450's sound-wise. They are not. They also clip very easily.
