Diese Optima Flatwound Saiten haben eine geschliffene Oberfläche und sind deshalb sehr gut und leicht zu spielen. Es entstehen so gut wie keine Nebengeräusche - anders als bei nicht geschliffenen umwickelten Saiten. Der Klang ist sehr sauber und klar, allerdings weniger schrill als z.B. bei Saiten aus Bronze oder Phosphorbronze. Die lange Lebensdauer und die Qualität der Optima-Saiten rechtfertigen den relativ hohen Preis.
Als ich diese Saiten zum ersten Mal auf meine Mandoline spannte, war ich anfangs von dem veränderten Klangbild sehr überrascht. Mittlerweile bin ich davon aber so begeistert, dass ich alle meine Mandolinen Zug um Zug mit Optima-Saiten bespanne. Wichtig ist noch zu erwähnen, dass ich ausschließlich mit sehr starken Mandolinenplektren spiele.
