Accurate and affordable studio monitoring

The Presonus Eris E5 XT is an active bi-amplified studio-grade monitor that is sold individually. It is fitted with a 5.25" woofer and 1” tweeter. The XT version is more advanced than the standard E5, and as such has a slightly larger bass reflex cabinet which strengthens the lower end of the spectrum, as well as a waveguide which achieves an even more accurate stereo image. Like its smaller brother, the E5 XT is unusually well-balanced and natural-sounding for a speaker in its price range. It provides the same high gain reserves as the regular E5, and its well-thought-out filter section is designed to seamlessly adapt the speaker's basic sound to the acoustics of any room. Anyone looking for a reliable near-field monitoring solution for their home studio should definitely consider the Presonus Eris E5 XT.

The right components for a well-balanced sound

The Presonus Eris E5 XT is fitted with a carefully designed and solidly built bass reflex cabinet made of vinyl-laminated MDF. As with all the Eris models, the woofers are made of Kevlar, producing a clean and precise bass response and even diffusion through all the lower frequencies. Similarly, the silk dome tweeter and waveguide reproduce all the high frequencies in a very natural way and provide a wide sweet spot in the listening position. Two separate class AB amplifiers respectively provide 35 and 45 Watts of power to the tweeter and woofer.

Ideal for home studios

The Presonus Eris E5 XT is a reliable, no frills, and affordable monitor, perfect for the home studio. We all know the complexities involved in improving the acoustics of a room, especially when the latter is not initially designed with music or postproduction in mind. The Eris E5 XT's crossover section is a great help in this respect. Its switchable low-cut filter suppresses unwanted resonant low frequencies (for example when the speaker is placed close to a wall) and two continuous filters adjust the midrange and treble by plus or minus 6 dB. In addition, the automatic "Acoustic Space" function cleans up the often critical low-midrange and ensures that the sound is reproduced as faithfully as possible.

About Presonus

Presonus is a US company founded in 1995 by Jim Odom and Brian Smith in Baton Rouge, Lousiana. The firm designs hardware and software at both professional and more affordable levels for musicians and producers. Presonus first made a splash in the mid-1990s with the DCP8, an eight-channel analogue compressor/limiter/gate with fader and mute automation that could be digitally controlled by MIDI. In the early 2000s followed a series of microphone amplifiers and the first audio interfaces for the then-emerging home studio scene. Today, the company's product range includes audio interfaces, microphone preamps, digital mixing consoles, and studio monitors as well as the established DAW software Studio One.

Extensive connectivity

As a rule, a pair of E5 XTs are connected to the stereo analogue output of an audio interface or monitor controller. Each speaker is fitted with both a 6.3 mm jack and an XLR input, thus eliminating the need for an adapter. The inputs are balanced and provide 4 dBu of gain as a reference level, as is to be expected from studio equipment. Additionally, the Eris E5 XT is also fitted with an unbalanced -10 dBV RCA input, which allows hi-fi equipment to be connected.

Excellent studio monitors

I love these things ! For the price point , you can’t do any better. The build quality is very sturdy and high quality . The sound is great ! For mixing I just roll off the highs a little to get a more accurate sound . It has all the things you could need for a “bedroom studio”. I did connect them to a different power source than my laptop ,Instruments, etc . I’ve had zero hum , no speaker popping, etc . I put them on some Pyle stands with isopads and they rock!

J
PreSonus Eris E5 XT - WOW
JimsabesT 01.07.2022
I extensively researched and reviewed Studio monitors over a period of months with the PreSonus Eris E5 XT in theory outshining all others. With trepidation, I purchased the monitors from Thomann. The monitors arrived 9 days later, the usual and expected delivery time from Thomann. I immediately unboxed the speakers and installed them in my small home recording studio. WOW when I turned them on and started playing music through them they literally blew me off my feet, I heard sections of the music I have never heard before. There was a slight interference heard from the right hand speaker but when I unplugged the power lead and reconnected it on the same power circuit as the left hand speaker the interference disappeared. The sound from these speakers is clean and clear, in fact they are the best speakers I have ever heard. They are easy to listen to with no fatigue or tiredness. The build quality is top class with the speakers sturdy and strong. I proceeded to calibrate the speakers following the PreSonus online guide. The speaker crossover (the sound travelling between and to and from the speakers) is mind blowing. The built in features are more than adequate, I left them as is with no change to the settings from their defaults. I did change the Acoustic Space setting of the right hand speaker because it is set up in a corner. In conclusion, I am so happy I decided on the PreSonus Eris E5 XT speakers, they are just amazing and I would have no hesitation in recommending these little powerhouses of audio reproduction to anyone considering purchasing active studio monitors. Thank you once again Thomann for your excellent customer service and for bringing such quality audio hardware to me.

Presonus Eris E5 XT

Absolutely nothing to complain here. As stated above, it has all the connections one might ever need, some useful EQ options and overall it is a well-built, nicely polished product that feels professional. It also comes with eight thin adhesive rubber pads that can be attached to the bottom of the speakers so it won't scratch the surface or the monitors when placing or moving them, which is a nice touch. Documentation is also very good, not only providing the basics but also going quite deep on placement and calibration, with some good information on those subject that should be more than enough to educate even those who are entirely new to the game.
Thanks to Thomann and Staff...

DZ
Great for a home studio
Denis Z 26.03.2022
Very good build quality, although the speaker itself may appear too large given the size of the woofer. The bass reflex ports are on the front side which is great if you have to place the monitors close to the wall.

Overall, they are surprizingly bassy for 5-inch monitors, especially compared to Eris 4.5 which I have connected to my TV as media speakers. The sound quality itself is decent given the price - they are transparent, offer good stereo image, and provide enough clarity in the minimally treated room.
