Solid device with intuitive operation and class sound
14.11.2016
The device I got Thursday, on Saturday the 1st (carnival) event mixed:
Task: Small band (3 musicians, drums, keyboard, sax, complete microphone) as well as 3 radio transmitters and music preserve with about 400 listeners / spectators.
To the device in general:
The design of the mixer is logical and self-explanatory. The device makes a great impression in quality, does not rattle or rattle, the power switch sits securely on the back of the housing so that accidental switching off is impossible. Practically (and mE also a little risky) the mute button on the front of all output channels is muted.

The quality of the input and output jacks (partial jack / XLR combobuchsen and XLR jacks) was perfect, there is nothing to complain about.

Hardware:
The operation is exclusively via PC or tablet. There is even a Windows version of the UC Surface software. This I have before the purchase times for test purposes installed, at the event, but then I have customarily given preference to the Ipad. The Apple and Windows versions of the software are identical to the operation and functionality, so the evaluation of the software is also valid for the Windows version.
I have at the event the mixer by LAN cable to a Fritz box 4020 connected as access point. As expected, there was no problem with range and link quality. The UC Surface App on my two Ipads immediately found the mixer without hesitation.

Operation software:
The interface of the software is logical and largely intuitive. The manuals I had downloaded before, but had to make no use so far. I could at the operation, synonymous from about 25 meters distance to the Fritzbox no time lag (latency), synonymous misfires or the like I had not. I mix with larger setups currently with Yamaha TF3 and Stagebox. The Presonus software is in my opinion even more intuitive to use than the Yamaha StageMix software! "Fucking" I would in this regard only the Yamaha app looks more chic. However, the paths to the individual functions (eg gate, compressor, etc.) in the Presonus are shorter. With the range of functions I have so far nothing missing.

Sound:
The sound is there from my point of view nothing to complain about, the Xmax preamplifiers are nice pegelfest, try, I sometimes provoked an oversteering. The input level indicator on the front of the unit (LED chain, one LED per channel) then changes to red so that the overdriven channel can also be found directly on the mixer. - Practically! The corresponding channel is also marked in the Ipad app. When the signal was not scraped, the signal was truncated. In my test, this sounded like a drop out of a radio microphone.

My conclusion:
In terms of processing, sound and usability, I have absolutely nothing to complain about. Also the extensibility by Dante card and a system extension eg with an RML32AI or an extension with a Pulthardware like the CS18AI is m. E. is important for the future and expansion potential.
For setups up to 16 channels a great, mature mixer with "great" functions. At the target events for this mixer size I need no Pulthardware, with a setup over 16 channels, I have at least at the time (still) rather a "real" desk in the fingers. From me there for the RML16AI a clear recommendation!

Great mixer !!!
AndiPRS, 29.10.2017
We use the StudioLive desk only for the In Ear Mix in combination with two splitters .. the software and the console are logically structured and you can find your way around very quickly ...
The only negative point that I have noticed so far is that at the beginning very often the backups have disappeared and I could not import them anymore which was very annoying ...
But when I updated the software (Macbook Pro) and updated the firmware on the mixer, everything is working perfectly as it should.
