Classic sound but impractical for pedal board usage
Classic tone, if a little noisy. The main issue I have is the massive rubber feet and screws plus battery door which make it extremely annoying to put on a board. As for shipping and all that thomann was great.

I expected more
I had great expectations when I bought it and now it's back in its box. I have four distortion in my pedalboard and the fact that this thing is bulky is not helpful for the competition. Sturdy yes, easy to handle not. Still badass sound, though not particularly versatile.

No brainer if you're into this sound
The RAT type of distortion is unique and this pedal does nothing but deliver it purely.
As far as the construction goes, it is bulky and, despite sturdy, could be finished better: the led isn't centered, the edges are roughly cut and there is all kinds of rattling when adjusting the knobs, so any tweak in the fly is out of the question.
The RAT sound is what it is, if you like it I find it hard to find a better pedal than this one. In the lower settings you'll be able to get a nice treble booster kind of sound, very raw but also great to find lost overtones allover the fretboard.
Anything farther than 10% on the gain knob will enter definitly into distortion kingdom.

Great sound, poor quality.
This sounds amazing, arguably one of the best fuzz you will find out there for this price. However, as mentioned by other users it has many flaws in terms of construction.
The build is cheap, and I became painfully are of how cheap when the plastic (!) DC power input broke off internally, minutes before I was due to perform. It was only a few months old at this point and had been used with great care.
The rubber feet make the unit very awkward to attack to a pedal board and its clunky size / shape and weight makes it awkward also.
I returned mine after the break and opted for a smaller fuzz that sounded just as good, if not better. won't be buying another Rat.

good pedal but needs some tweaking
I bought this to give me the classic/hard rock rhythm and lead tone with my strat. For awhile I used it on it's own but it sounded a bit fizzy when gained turned up past 12 o'clock so I ended up stacking it with the TS9 with gain on the rat at 9 o'clock and it sounds amazing. I am aware that this pedal has a good reputation for build quality but mine broke after about 20 gigs, the switch sometimes won't turn the pedal on which was quite disappointing.
