Still one of the best but not as feedback safe as the MK I

myteron, 02.10.2014
I have been using these a lot as live monitors and for conferencing. I had RCF MK1 for many of years but throwing them around stages and having them in a rather wet garage made me sell them in hope the MK III work the same. The 310A needs a good scoope out at 375Hz in order to wooly sound when they are on the floor but with fantastic power and sound. Feedback was never a big issue with the MKI. The MKIII are different as they obviously have some frequency juggling going on in order to 'streigthen' them out in frequency respones. Trouble is there is only so much meddling that goes well or in other words the more frequency bending you apply the higher the chance some frequencies get boosted at different dynamic levels. These MKIII with digital crossover tend to feedback quicker than their former MKI counterpart with analog crossovers. With the raised top end on the 310A MKIII condensers like a B87C they can become completely useless.

Even so I am slightly put off by their digital crossover fancy pants I would still recommend them over all the other want to be RCF 310's out there.

Advantages the MKIII have over the MKI is that RCF have moved the power and XLR connecters to a central position so that the connectors are not bend when you use them as monitors. The Mic Line switch is now fatter, still unreachable for accidental bumping into but big enough so that one can move it with a key. The 'boost' switch is for me more an annoyance as it has the potential of someone bumping into it during setup. They also added a Jack input that is very nice.

Friends of mine use them for pub gigs, they where skeptical at first as their size is so small. By now they feel grateful to have taken these over bulkier speakers other musicians have to lift around. They give them great smiles from the sound when they play and lightness when they set them up whilst other musicians do weight lifting with 'bigger' speakers. They use them together with a Soundcraft EFX 12.

They do their job great with the likes of SM58 and you find hardly any more compact and powerfull speaker out there. DJ's love them for crowds up to 80. They still do their job with 120 Guests but one should add subs at that point. Make sure to take T-mans bundle incl stands if you buy them.

RCF ART 310´s

Tamerlane, 29.01.2014
These lightweight, powerful, cheap speakers are the best bang for the buck! The Italian´s did a great job in designing these speakers. When I am not using them for concerts and practices, I connect them to my t.v. in my living room. I refuse to leave home without them.

Pro´s...Beautifully sounding speakers. Very reasonable priced.

Con´s...The switch in the back of the speaker that converts the mic/line output connection could have been designed so that the user can make the conversion with less effort. In other words, the switch is to far embedded into the speaker; I have to use my fingernail or a pen or pencil to make the conversion of the switche. Still, I´d recommend these speakers...
