Lets start with the good bits. The i-XLR is well crafted and hopefully should last a while. It appears to give awesome sound and works really well with the free app.

But why is the big round control a volume knob for the headphones? You can't tell what the actual gain is because you can turn the headphones up and down. I know because I have students and that's what they do.

The critical function - adjusting the recording gain - can't be done except through the recording app, which as I use Filmic Pro isn't quick or easy. Crazy. What do they smoke down under?

The Rode i-XLR is very useful and provides a very good sound quality. The operation and the interplay with the app is simple and works perfectly. I used the device together with the DJI Go app to stream usable audio live on Facebook. Here it can unfortunately drift between audio and video, but does not necessarily lie on the device.

A hardware gain control goes a little off. The push-to-record function works also only with one of the two rode apps (foreign software is not supported). The recording function can also be used with the iRig Recoder.
My tests sometimes caused problems with the jacks after using the i-XLR. In order for her to lead a Sognal, a mobile phone restart is sometimes necessary.
