After the synth got announced, it was an immediate buy for me! I've been hesitating at the time over several different models of other brands.
Every function ticks the box for a small, portable synth to play around with. I am using it as a companion to my Blackbox and it just makes total sense.
The hidden functions are still something i'm getting used to and FX controls are quite basic, but considering form factor and what you get as a synth it's just some whining of a modern producer. Can't imagine, how much space would it take to host something like this in the 80s

Nach dem J-6 ist der S-1 mein zweites Gerät aus der AIRA Compact-Serie.

Wer sich für diesen Synth interessiert, sollte eines wissen: Die Bedienelemente sind wirklich grenzwertig klein und der Aufdruck einiger Buttons selbst mit Brille schwer lesbar. Als Hobbyfrickler im Schlafzimmerstudio oder auf dem Sofa kann ich damit gerade so leben. Einen gezielten Liveeinsatz des S-1 kann ich mir selbst mit sehr viel Fantasie nicht vorstellen.

Aber okay, das alles habe ich schon vorher gewusst bzw. geahnt. Der Klang des S-1 hingegen ist über jeden Zweifel erhaben. Trotz seiner überschaubaren Stimmenarchitektur ist er vielseitig einsetzbar: Er kann sehr kraftvoll und durchsetzungsfähig, aber auch ruhig, geschmeidig und zurückhaltend klingen. Sein "Sweet Spot" ist überraschend groß. Wie nahe er klanglich einem SH-101 kommt, mag ich nicht beurteilen. Es interessiert mich auch nicht.

Zum Herumdaddeln im Urlaub oder auf dem Sofa, als Sample-Quelle für meinen Digitakt oder als "fünfte Spur" meiner MC-101 finde ich den S-1 genial.

Die Verarbeitung ist, wie auch bei den anderen Geräte dieser Reihe, absolut in Ordnung.
