The part is awesome!

Töni, 15.08.2018
An affordable living room drums with very good sound and great possibilities - quite suitable for stage use.

I bought the TD-17KVX to be able to re-enter after a long break and practice daily at home. To make a preselection, I watched a lot of YouTube videos. And I had the opportunity to test the Alesis Crimson II Mesh Kit. This did not quite convince me (sound quality and playability of the hi-hat). So my decision was in favor of the almost twice as expensive TD-17.

First I was skeptical, if the structure-borne noise would not be too loud for the neighbors (rented flat!), But they can easily be gotten under control.I have only laid sponge rubber, put a plexiglass plate over it (which is less vibration than wood). a board made of pressed cardboard would also be good), above it carpet (noose, so that the Velcro straps of the pedals etc. stick as well as possible). That funzt very well. Have often played at night - without complaints! The loudest is the hissing sound of the hi-hat pad, but airborne noise is not a problem in my apartment. Also, the TD-17 takes up less space than expected.

The setup took 4 hours to unpack, including 45 minutes for the rack. I also read the manuals cross-legged. It is important to tighten the skins, which among other things improves the rebound. So drum rolls are not a problem. Also, I first calibrated all pads and adapted to my preferred 7a sticks. The bell of the Ride Basin can also be played so well. The rubber smell is already very strong. After two days of frequent airing, he has largely disappeared, but not completely gone after two weeks. But bearable.
The rack is light and stable, all clamps easily adjustable.

I find the playability very good - quite similar to an acoustic set. Smears in the hi-hat. To create a hissing whistle you have to take your foot higher than usual. The lower part of the pickup construction is quite thick, which makes the hi-hat stand a little higher than I like. Also, the upper part is a little smaller than a real hi-hat. So I have to take the tripod a little closer. But on the whole, she plays quite well. With the Velcro straps on the bass drum pad, the foot machine and the hi-hat stand (see below), nothing slips!
When cross stick on the snare, I find it amazing that even sounds a third sound. However, this can not be loud enough, so not as loud as the real 'clack'. The stop function of the pelvis funzt in principle well. Only you have to have a strong handshake. I did not manage three fast pelvis stops in a row.

I find the sounds and the sound quality consistently very good. When the cymbals ... so if you listen carefully ... - but this is more due to the low-priced bundle headphones. And the snare drum sounds pretty uniform over time. It's just not real. Nevertheless, I am sure that the TD17 is absolutely suitable for the amateur field. The headphone output could be a bit louder, but it still works. Here I recommend a headphone with the lowest possible impedance.

The possibility to import via SD card user samples fascinates me. So I sampled my acoustic snare and now I can play it with the TD-17. Or a fat gong, etc.
I connected my old Alesis D4 via the Aux In. Together with an old 4-pad I have eg a conga section extra. The Bluetooth feature is very handy. Unfortunately, she sometimes jumps and swallows herself!
For the free trigger input, I built a temporary pad. An extra retaining clip loads (with a contact microphone Harley Benton CM-1000).

I bought the TD-17 bundle with Millenium HH-903 HiHat Swivel, DW 4002 Double Bass Drum Pedal, Millenium DT-902 Drum Stool and Superlux HD-681 Headphones. These parts also do a good job!

In relation to the price - all in all, absolute buy recommendation despite small deductions.

addendum:
- One time a neighbor complained. That's why I put a balcony carpet in between and do not play quite so expressive at night.
- I had quickly broken my makeshift pad. In addition, you can not play 2 sounds with 2 pads - not even using the built-in building instructions with the 100 kOhm resistor. This is not possible with the TD-17. That's why I ordered a Roland BT-1 pad. It fits the handrail of eg the Tom1. I have the controller but not registered as a BT-1, but as a VH10 and tried around with the settings, which has an impact dynamic effect. So I played - piano - eg a really loud cross-stick and from mezzoforte a cowbell.
- The Bluetooth stumblers are barely there. Probably more on the phone, the Bluetooth standard or the weather;)
- Have now also sampled my acoustic snare with brooms - really stir with drum. So now I can play slow blues with a brush kit :))
- I'm still totally excited about the TD-17!
