Essential Tool for Project Studios
JChong, 13.02.2020
I shifted out of my old studio into a home studio setup recently and the acoustics in my new place wasn't great. I struggled alot with the bottom end and noticed massive notches and dips in the low and low mid range, thus I resorted to a speaker calibration software. I did a bit of research and having heard of Sonarworks from industry friends and also online reviews, I took the jump and bought it.

Delivery was prompt and came within a week of the order being placed. Instructions was clear and straightforward. I had to calibrate a couple of times to get it right but after which I was quite blown away by the results. It takes a while of getting used to the calibrated sound. But after a week of listening to various source materials, I could see how useful the software calibration was. Mixing was alot easier and i could make decisions faster in the process.

Systemwide software was useful for just getting the same listening experience out of the DAW but the only drawback was the Linear Phase mode which at times would increase its latency to up to 1 second, which was terribly annoying for watching YouTube videos as it would sound out of sync with the video.

Overall it's a good buy! Only use it if you find that after getting treatment and speaker placement you can't seem to get the sound out of your speakers.

Good at fixing small problems in frequency response
RF12, 05.04.2018
I got this program to help finalize my studio monitor room. I have heavily treated room, and good enough monitors. Still to be sure I wanted something to measure my room and possibly fix the minor problems that were there (bump around 100Hz that comes with smallish rooms etc). For this pourpose the program works well. The most fixing it had to do was around 6dB, so minor changes only considering room size.
So how dit this affect the sound of my speakers in the room? It helped to clarify bass and mid frequencies, and revealed some things that were hard to pinpoint inboth my and others mixes. The systemwide part of the program makes it easy to listen music from youtube/spotify/etc. and the daw plugin is nice too. The only problem in systemwide is that it only uses windows direct sound (I'm a windows user), and has no ASIO support yet, though Sonarworks seems to be implementing it later this year.
Also I would like to say that the program is very easy to use. It guides you through the measurement phase very well. The only thing I would have liked for them to include was a mic clip. I had to resort taking a clip from a sennheiser handheld mic, and pad it a bit to get a snug fit so that I could use a mic stand.

An ear-opener
OskarSomnof, 26.06.2019
As somebody who has been struggling with getting the mixing of my music right, this program has changed everything.

Once you put it on your master it's like you can actually hear now. Getting rid of your setup's acoustic imperfections (or minimizing them) is ear-opening.

The feature set is somewhat limited, in my opinion, but at the end of the day Reference does what it's meant to do.

The auto volume adjustment feature was kind of irritating at first, but after a while you just learn to turn up your speakers/headphones with the plugin inserted.

The studio bundle, I think, is reasonably priced and is a worthwhile addition to studios of all levels.

All in all, Reference 4 is certainly worth the asking price and can help you raise you mixing to a higher level.

Can't work without it.
Null.0, 26.12.2019
I used to work a ton with Reference 3 and I gotta say, I had a lot of issues with it. But Reference 4? Wow. A huge improvement from the previous version in sound quality/ features/ interface/ compatibility. If you work in a small or untreated space with lots of acoustic issues, give it a go. You wouldn't believe the results. The calibration itself takes about 20 minutes and it's really easy. My Neumann KH120's sounded like beasts without Reference, but with it enabled, they are more accurate, faster and more enjoyable to listen to altogether. Amazing.
