Now that TASCAM stopped making MD decks...
musicinprag, 24.07.2019
CD is theoretically a better sounding medium but the editing capabilities and general usability compare very poorly to MD decks. I don't know what the capabilities of pro CD recorders are but the editing capabilities on this are basically zero. You need silence, time, DD, or a lucky finger to cut track marks. If you miss it, and you will, there is no going back. There is no moving tracks around, no splitting, no joining. The titling is convenient and fast with a PS/2 keyboard, as with other TASCAM decks.

I guess this machine is really not very useful except perhaps for transcribing albums. And not live albums either since they don't have enough silence between songs. The wired remote is straight out of 1975. A very weird unit and not very endearing so far. Since the MD-CD1 MKIII is history, this is what's left if you want a device that records on and plays from physical media. I knew about most of the shortcomings compared to MD but I did not know there was essentially no way to edit a CD even before it was finalized. Think really hard if you ought to buy this or a recorder that uses memory cards.
