Amazing instrument! Lots of menu layers but highly intuitive.

Christi R , 18.12.2018
When you first open it you worry it will be difficult to learn how to use this because of it being so menu-driven but the quick-start guide and overlays are so intuitive that you learn the interface within 20 minutes.

I've been using this to write music while on planes and trains and to demo out new ideas worked on in the rehearsal room too.

One small issue I've noticed (and read online along with the OP-1) is that in some situations you get a loud buzzing noise if the instrument is charging via USB on a computer/laptop that is also being used to record the OP-Z from the line-out. (Only if it is the same laptop/computer). This is because it is non-isolated and creates a ground loop. I've seen isolators that can fix this problem so should be OK (and if you don't have it plugged in to charge it is no problem). For this reason I haven't marked down the OP-Z in my star rating as it is a work-around-able issue.

Overall it is incredible. Certainly very expensive but you can tell a lot of that cost is for the large amount of time spent on research and development from Teenage Engineering.

How do I find the OP-Z? ... only with glasses, under the remote control?

Herr Jemine, 11.11.2018
I was shocked by the size of the Z.
He has about the same size as a remote control.
I had read that, but if he is in front of a doubt, if there is still something useful to come out.

I dare with the Z for reasons of space, because of the portability (finally I can do something meaningful in the shopping mile of my wife on the chair of the men's car park) and out of curiosity. And despite the high price I attribute to brainwash stuck in the bar. The updates were released so far at Teenager Engineering and were very extensive ...

I have a tiny, pretty sounding pc-free bedroom studio, dudel for fun, my wife bothers with acid, soundscapes, noise, house, screw, sometimes even a neat Goatrack.

The sound sounds like teenage engineering according to digital. Very well resolved, imho much better than the Op-1. The intervention possibilities are more limited with the 4 Synthengines.
You get pressure, the groove too. For multi-layered tracks I will pair it with other instruments.
Really a pity is the lack of direct Samplingmöglichkeit.Das is about a tool or the Op-1, but not directly ..
The microphone is installed exclusively for direct output of the voice via effects.

The sequencer is easy to use, the brain can be wound around it quickly, you get results faster, more complex than at a circuit and comparably fast. The timing I feel as sharp, I have the feeling it has a special character, ditto the Grooveeinstellunge.Kann can be due to the resolution.
The performance is fun, in spite of the mini keys the punch in effects, tapetricks etc. work quite well, and I have glove size 10 ...
I use the IOS app, but also standalone, which goes very well on the RGB-LED buttons on color coding. Everything, what can the app can also Z alone.

So far, I have not exhausted the step component, they seem to allow countless variations of the steps and sequences.
The DMX control options, 3-D and Bildsequenzing I just scratched and had fun, there is certainly for a small party a lot more than a disco music organ creates.
The workmanship is impeccable. Heavier than a remote control and quite as a tactical synth used because surprisingly sharp. The surface is slightly marbled by embedded glass fibers and seems to conform to Israeli military standards, so unbreakable. The battery lasts many hours and is easily accessible from below and interchangeable.

Beautiful is the already very lively online community, there are tools and patches offered free of charge. For all questions comes within minutes useful tips from the communities

All in all, the dwarf currently engages me more than most of the greats I once had.
He is fun despite his tonal limitations, because he is very good at what he offers. Let's see if I get him involved in my setup.
I'll probably keep it, especially because it's fun.
