Unbelievable quality for the price
AlcalaBob, 30.05.2019
This is a very sweet jazz guitar and at the price, it's unbeatable. I've played a lot of guitars mostly for jazz but this deep-bodied archtop really stands out. Even unamplified is has real quality tone with a remarkable balance across the mid-range. Amplified it keeps its clear character, no muddy spots.

The two humbucker pickups do their job very well with hardly any noise at all, nice crisp sounds across the full range of tones. The neck pickup gives lovely Joe Pass type sounds and the guitar records really well straight through a USB interface into a DAW. Through a valve amp, it sounds full-throated and retains a nice acoustic quality too. The sustain is excellent even without amplification which points to the quality of the soundboard. Though I don't play the style, the range of sound would be fine for country, blues, even manouche styles. It's very versatile.

It's very well-made, comfortable to play and grows on you very quickly. You won't want to put it down so be warned. I'm struggling to find anything critical to say. The construction quality is excellent as was even the initial setup. I've made absolutely minimal changes for personal preference but they weren't really necessary. Nope, can't think of anything negative about this guitar. It does everything I could want and does it well. Highly recommended. And at this price???

Un air d'ES-175 vintage
Renaud, 18.08.2014
Bref, prix moyen, prestation moyenne...

Gute Jazzgitarre
The Ben, 11.05.2020

Great guitar considering it's price!
EdwinT, 12.11.2015
I was looking for a ES175 type of guitar without spending the usual suspectable investment for this type of instrument. This Loar instrument is a great one although it's sound acoustically is a bit thin. Choice of strings also come into play with this. I strung it with D'addario EXL115 011-049. Perhaps I should just put flatwound strings like D'addario chromes or something like that on it.The pickups are great and the acoustically heard thin sound goes away. The finish and craftsmanship on this guitar is great! Of course the whole body is laminated (like on any gibson ES175!) but I have a beautiful birtheye-maple back and the front also looks very, very nice! Action can be set very low although I must confess that I had to level one fret a bit on the treble side in order to keep it's tone free from fretbuzz. Frets are also very small, thin and low. If you're used to jumbo frets, be in for a radical change in feel. The frets could also be polised a bit more prior to shipping. Tuners are very good and authentically looking. All in all a very nice guitar!
