Plug in and go

The free2b from the t.bone is a wireless transmission system comprising a transmitter and a receiver - both of them scarcely larger than a conventional XLR connector - that allows users to transform their dynamic microphone into a wireless mic and even transmit line-level signals without breaking the bank. Admittedly, professional functions such as infrared synchronisation and squelch are lacking here, but on the plus side, the free2b can be used free of charge and without registration. The scope of delivery additionally includes a split charging cable, which allows the batteries of both transmitter and receiver to be charged simultaneously from a single USB socket, a mobile shoe adapter, and an adapter cable from XLR to 3.5mm mini-jack.

Figures that add up

The t.bone free2b operates in the 2.4GHz ISM range, which is generally popular for use with civilian devices, and up to four systems can be used at the same time. The free2b's latency is less than 4ms - low enough to be negligible when it comes to live signal transmission and not get in the way of a smooth performance. The compact wireless system also delivers 24-bit/44.1kHz high-definition audio quality that will even hold up to studio-level expectations. And last but not least, its weight of just 130 grams means that the transmitter can be attached to a microphone without causing it to become unbalanced or difficult to handle.

Free of charge worldwide

Users who spend a lot of time on the road but don't want to keep changing their wireless system can rest easy knowing that the t.bone free2b can be used worldwide without registration and free of charge - so while "only" four of these systems can be used simultaneously, the user will not face any additional costs beyond the purchase price, making the free2b an ideal solution for amateur musicians, semi-professional events, and occasional use in the corporate environment. To ensure quick and easy synchronisation, the system features six channels that can be selected at the push of a button, and automatic pairing on the most suitable channel takes place upon startup, making this an interesting solution for beginners too.

About the t.bone

Since 1994, the t.bone has been one of Thomann’s in-house brands, and its name can be found on devices such as headphones, wireless systems, in-ear equipment, and various microphones and matching accessories. “the t.bone” products are made exclusively by renowned companies who also manufacture products for other well-known brands. This provides a clear advantage: Brand-quality products at very reasonable prices. And word gets around: One in seven Thomann customers has already bought at least one product from the t.bone.

For singers, presenters, and smartphone filming

With a transmission range of up to 30 metres, the t.bone free2b wireless system is the perfect companion for singers and presenters plying their trade on smaller stages, and it will also fit the bill perfectly for events with a modest-sized audience that require just a small number of wireless channels - whatever the application, those irritating cables will be a thing of the past. Content creators who film with their smartphone and use the free2b for reports, interviews, and similar applications can in turn also upgrade by adding a suitable mobile shoe and smartphone cable. The system's integrated lithium ion battery provides up to five hours of operation, which will easily cover shorter events or video shoots, and dedicated LED indicators provide a continuous overview of the battery charge level so that the user can connect a replacement if the power starts running low.

Simply Amazing but 2.4GHz isn't the best Freq
RSDs 27.11.2020
Really good and easy to handle equipment.

Sound quality is optimal and latency almost inexistent.

Sometimes 2.4GHz might be really crowded and interferences may occur as a result of cellphones or routers.

It would be nice if button to swap channel could be somehow protected, hidden somewhere or timed (lets say 3, to prevent performance from being interrupted by mistakenly touching it when life.

Great with loudspeakers, not so much with headphones
yayks 31.08.2023
Dead simple to use, I didn't read any manuals. Good, reliable signal. The only downside is that the receiver generates some background noise. There's some audiable hiss from the receiver plugged into the audio interface even when the transmitter is turned off and disconnected from the mic. The noise is very obvious in headphones (DT 770 Pro), so I was on edge whether to try to ignore it or return the item for a refund. However, I'm glad that I tried connecting it to the speakers (Yamaha HS8) and there the hiss is virtually non-existent, plus HS8 have some of their own inherent noise (when your ear is right next to them), so it's not really that clear which noise I was hearing, and from two meters away it's inaudiable. In the end, I think it's a great item for the price.

M
Neat, compact, convenient
Mombasaflash 31.03.2020
I will add to this review after the system has been gigged. Only then will I get any indication as to whether 2.4gHz is a safe frequency to use in a crowded venue full of Wi-Fi, cellphones and a 2.4gHz PA mixer, and how long the internal batteries last.

It is about as complicated to use as a normal plug and socket. In a quite room or studio there is discernible background hiss, but certainly nothing that would ever be heard on a stage.

There is no discernible colouration to the sound when using it with a typical dynamic microphone (Beta SM58).

I selected to try this unit over other similar plug-in systems because the receiver has such a narrow diameter - barely more than a standard XLR plug - and therefore with less risk of touching or interfering with the next XLR on a mixer input panel.

G
Does the job!
Guernseyman69 22.06.2021
Much better than having cables trailing all over the stage. Works perfectly well, but if you are the kind of person that wanders too far from the stage, then you might suffer drop out. I use it on a static mic stand, and it is great! 6 channels mean that you are unlikely to interfere with other wireless kit. Me & the bass have wireless guitar units and it plays happily with these. Great stuff!"
