Superb mic....
Anonymous 15.11.2015
Got to admit, I was a little dubious about this mic, how good could it possibly be for £35? But for a gigging drummer on a budget I figured it was worth a try.

First thing that took me by surprise was the weight of this thing. You need a sturdy stand! I like my mic stand off to the side of the kick drum, I want people to see as much of the custom painted head as possible. I bought a stand with a weighted base, rather than legs, (don't won't the guys out front kicking my mic out of the way lol) and I've had to add a little weight to keep it stable. It also feels very solid, like you could drop it and do more damage to the floor than to the mic itself.

Now to the important bit, how does it sound? The simple answer is, great! It picks up plenty of low end, there is a real thud to the sound. A little EQ and it also gives plenty of beater attack, which I need to cut through our bass players sound! I will say, you do have to watch the gain, a touch too far and you will get feedback. Speaker placement is paramount. I also found that tuning in a tighter sound with less boom on my kick helped a lot, it's definitely the resonant frequencies that are causing the feedback. A gate here would work wonders!

All in all, a fantastic mic at an unbeatable price. There could a lot more tBones in my kit bag if they all turn out this good.

Great Value Mic
Richard7040 05.07.2014
Just used this last night for the first time at a gig to mic up the bass drum & also a cahon in a rock/indie/punk band. First thing I noticed was that the connection to the xlr lead was very tight and wondered whether it was too small, it turned out okay and it was a tight/snug fit, but I suppose that isn't a bad thing as it is less likely to come apart, so let's be postive here - perhaps it's an intentional useful feature.

My initial reaction to the sound captured by this mic on the bass drum was astonishment, how could an item so cheap be capable of such good results! The lows were very well defined and precise and I was very happy with how this sound blended in with the rest of the kit.

Next up we used this to mic up a cahon. Probably wasn't my first choice for this but it was the closest and easiest thing to sort as there wasn't as seperate mic available at the time. Well yet again I was very impressed and quite relieved actually that this handled this cahon with ease, Two people from the audience remarked afterwards how great it sounded. Boom!

So in summary, this mic is such great value, I would definately recommend it and don't waste your money on a named brand unless you have money to burn.

You would not think that this is a £35 microhphone
Anonymous 19.10.2014
I bought this microphone for studio recording purposes, such as miking my bass drum, or miking a bass amplifier. I used to use at least two microphones on the bass drum (one for sub the other for punch) - now I just use this!

When placed just inside of the port hole of the bass drum, pointed between the beater and the rim of the bass drum, you will get an amazing punchy yet full sound from this microphone.

The microphone itself is solid, I could chuck it down the stairs and it would't do a thing to it! I will say though that I do not like having the XLR cable coming out the back of it as it generally makes the mic more unwieldy to use especially if you want it inside the bass drum.

Overall though, it would be silly to not get one of these if you are looking for a new bass drum microphone.
