A flexible eight-channel PA solution

The 8x8 Matrix from Thomann's in-house brand the t.racks is a digital processor that can handle up to eight channels as part of a fixed PA installation and is suitable for integration into a 19" rack (where it requires just 1U of space). The processor includes a range of signal processing features that will optimise the sound of any fixed PA, including high and low-pass filters, a parametric EQ, a noise gate, a compressor, a limiter, and a delay effect as well as the option of 180° signal phase inversion. The channels can also be muted, and precise adjustments can be made to the gain level. The front panel houses a USB port that gives the user flexible control over the processor using a computer running on Windows, in addition to which the t.racks 8x8 Matrix can be integrated into a network.

Precise control via software

The 8x8 Matrix Processor from the t.racks dispenses with physical control elements and is instead controlled via connection to a Windows PC (the corresponding software, which allows the user to adjust the entire range of parameters, is included on CD in the scope of delivery). An internal AUX path is also provided that allows effects to be added to the channels, and up to 21 user presets can be stored via the software, allowing users to recall their internal effect settings quickly for a range of scenarios. The 8x8 Matrix's front panel includes a level meter and clipping indicator for each channel as well as additional control LEDs that provide information about the processor's current connections. The rear panel in turn houses eight inputs and outputs in screw terminal block format, and the 8x8 Matrix is supplied with power via an IEC connection.

Optimum sound, minimised footprint

The t.racks 8x8 Matrix is designed as a high-quality solution for use in fixed installations that allows up to eight channels to be processed and optimises the sound in every conceivable scenario. It processes signals with sampling rates of up to 96kHz and up to 32-bit depth and allows users to quickly save and recall their settings as presets. In addition to the option of controlling the processor from a Windows computer, the user can also control it via RS232 remote control protocol using the dedicated port, which is located beneath the Ethernet connection on the rear panel. More complex setups can also be created by integrating multiple 8x8 Matrix devices into a network - it should be noted that if these devices are connected using a switch, each device must be assigned a separate IP address.

About the t.racks

The in-house brand the t.racks has been an integral part of the Thomann music store range since 1997. A wide range of different rack devices, effects, power distributors, and accessories appear under the t.racks name and prove that quality, reliability, and attractive pricing do not have to be mutually exclusive. Whether for home studios, the stage, or the rehearsal room – the t.racks offers a convincing and affordable solution for every situation.

High-quality sound processing

The t.racks 8x8 Matrix provides an extensive set of parameter adjustment options that will allow the user to custom-optimise their sound in any conceivable scenario: Channel gain can be set anywhere from -60 to +12dB, while the parametric EQ allows the centre frequency, filter quality, slope, and filter type to be freely adjusted. The "Bypass" button in turn allows the EQ for the relevant frequency band/channel to be temporarily switched off. The user can also make use of the onboard delay function if the speakers in their installation are situated a long way apart. As mentioned above, the t.racks 8x8 Matrix features digital high and low-pass filters with adjustable cut-off frequencies and a selection of Butterworth, Bessel, and Linkwitz-Riley filter types. To ensure that no signal reaches the speakers, the user can also set a noise gate, which suppresses residual noise and provides adjustment parameters for threshold, attack, and release.
