The best of the Wanne range for me

I've had (and still got!) about 6 different Wanne pieces, for tenor, alto and soprano. I prefer a dark sound and don't really like much baffle...I just can't control it. I have used a Gaia 3 as main piece but even that has quite a bit of edge at times - great for live bands, but a bit too bright for recording in my view. The Ambika is perfect for recording, it has a lovely lush tone and deep voicing. Of course it is superbly crafted - they all are from Theo Wanne - but this is so nicely balanced and takes away any harsh frequencies. If you are looking for dark, breathy, traditional jazz sounds, you will go very far with this one.

Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit diesem Mundstück. Es ist ja nicht so bekannt wie mancher Klassiker, aber ich bin sehr froh, dass ich den Mut hatte, auf das Ambika III umzustellen. Ich spiele damit sowohl in kleiner Jazzformation als auch in einer 30-köpfige Big Band. Es hat genug Durchsetzungskraft und ich liebe den eher wärmeren jazzigen Sound.

Der Ton ist "vintage", wobei auch das inzwischen eine breite Spannweite ist. Es hat eine große Kammer und bringt einen recht vollen Sound, im tiefen Register auch warm, jedoch nie stumpf. Sonst klingt es bei sehr guter Ansprache immer frei mit guter Projektion und die Intonation läßt sich im gesamten Register gut halten. Ich spiele damit trad. Jazz in kleinen Besetzungen.
