Unbeatable price in the bass department

The TBB-150 bass saxophone from Thomann impresses with a combination of high-quality workmanship and a clean, even finish. The body and keys are made of brass and finished in clear lacquer, and the instrument is also equipped with an adjustable thumb rest, which is a highly practical feature given its dimensions. This bass saxophone delivers a rich and extremely warm sound with outstanding tonal quality in the bass frequency range (without releasing too much air) and boasts both an impressively high-quality response and precise intonation. The tonal range extends from low Bb to high F#. The sound produced by a bass saxophone has always been completely unique, and the Thomann TBB-150 is no exception – in fact, quite the opposite is true.

A sound with plenty of character

The Thomann TBB-150 bass saxophone is produced to the highest standard of quality, and countless players have attested to its excellent level of craftsmanship. The keys, which form part of the complex mechanism, are well made and appropriately positioned. The TBB-150 will also get better over time: Once the instrument has been properly played in, its sound and response will really start to take shape, lending it a much more characterful sound. The scope of delivery also includes a retractable spike, which can be quickly and securely attached to the front of the bell to help support the instrument's weight while playing sitting down. It can of course also be played standing up (apologies to all the chirpractors out there!), in which case the use of a shoulder strap is definitely recommended. In addition to the spike, a mouthpiece complete with ligature and a robust lightweight case with backpack straps and wheels are also included.

For orchestra, band, and studio

The sound of the Thomann TBB-150 bass saxophone will be at home in a wide variety of musical genres, adding an impressive nuance to the overall sound of Soul, R&B, and Pop performances and slotting comfortably into Jazz and Fusion styles. And as well as being a welcome guest in brass/big band ensembles, it will also lend itself equally well to providing dramatic sounds in background music for films and for creating that special "A-ha!" effect in home or professional sound studios. The bass saxophone is and remains an exotic rarity among wind instruments – a fact that is also true of the Thomann TBB-150 – but it is a safe bet that it will never cease to attract admiring ears and eyes.

About Thomann wind instruments

Thomann-brand instruments, which are exclusively built by renowned manufacturers, now constitute a large part of Thomann’s product range alongside numerous big-name brands. With unbeatable price-performance ratios, Thomann wind instruments are the obvious first choice for students and beginners – and others too. The technical features and uncompromising sound quality they offer are usually reserved for much more expensive instruments found in the professional market segment.

All bases covered

Since the bass saxophone is not an entry-level instrument per se, the Thomann TBB-150 bass saxophone is aimed at advanced players, from amateurs through to professionals, who are capable of handling the instrument's dimensions and the challenges it poses in terms of air consumption and embouchure. Anyone opting for the Thomann TBB-150 bass saxophone will certainly get a lot for their money, especially since comparable competitor instruments can cost up to ten times as much. This makes the TBB-150 an excellent recommendation for price-conscious saxophonists looking to add a highly reliable instrument to their arsenal without compromising on quality - in any case, finding a comparable instrument at an equally attractive price elsewhere will certainly prove to be a difficult task.

D
Amazing quality for the price
Dellaran 20.06.2022
I ordered the Thomann bass saxophone about three months ago, and it reached me here in the USA about a week later. The outer shipping carton suffered a little bit in transit, but the instrument inside was packed well enough that it emerged undamaged and in good adjustment. I was able to take it out of the box and play it over its full range right away.

The build quality of the body and keywork are good, and the finish is clean and even. The instrument can be supported by the supplied peg, which attaches securely to the front of the bell. The included neckstrap would probably send you straight to the chiropractor, but using a shoulder harness, I found the horn surprisingly easy to play without the peg.

The case provides reasonable storage space for accessories, along with Velcro retaining straps to secure the horn. It also has shoulder straps for carrying on your back... good luck with that! Fortunately, it also has good wheels. I wish it had traditional latches, but the zipper is good quality and closes the case securely.

I've given only four stars for sound, primarily because of the weak response of fourth-line D. This is not unique to Thomann -- it's a well-known problem in short-wrap basses of this style. Fortunately, it's easy to help the D along by opening the high D or high Eb palm key, and the palm keys are well-placed and easy to reach. I can't comment on the stock mouthpiece because my bass arrived without one, but I've been reasonably happy with the Vandoren V5 mouthpiece I ordered along with the horn.

In summary, this instrument has been easy and satisfying to play, and the price is nothing short of amazing. I recommend it highly.

N
Excellent Quality at an Amazing Price
Nsax 30.04.2022
The Thomann bass saxophone is a well made instrument at an unbeatable price. The lacquer finish is free of blemishes, the soldering is clean and complete and there is no play between rod and post. Also, Thomann did a competent job of setting up the horn before shipping, it was ready to play upon arrival. You will need a better mouthpiece than the one included to get a true bass sound.

B
Thomann TBB-150; You'll never believe it isn't a Selmer SA-80 Bass
Bork6280 16.04.2022
Craftsmanship: Superb; Tone Quality: excellent, especially the rich low end; Intonation: up and down (in both stacks) it plays in tune with itself. I paired the horn with a Selmer SA-80 bass sax mouthpiece 7* and also a Vandoren V15. I like both mouthpieces very much and they both work great with the TBB-150. This is a lot of saxophone for a very reasonable price. Form, fit, and function is fantastic. Musician for over 60 years (10 years as a professional-touring big band musician).
