Hard to work with

The build quality looks nice and the shaker looks bulletproof but I can't really get a feel of this shaker. It feels like the inner cavity is too narrow and the pellets inside too large so I can't get them reaally moving in the groove. Don't know - maybe it works better for someone else. Since after owning it only a few months and rarely using it, I lost it after my first live with it someone else can now give it a try :) I won't be buying another one but will buy a Meinl SH88BK aluminium shaker instead. My friend has one and I really like it.

Better than expected

I'd seen a bad review for this but still wanted to try it as I liked the idea of a wooden body. Glad I did because it's really nice. Much louder than I was expecting and really versatile if you angle it or pivot your movements around one hand.

Der Wood Shaker ist sehr gut verarbeitet, sieht schön aus und liegt gut in der Hand. Er erzeugt einen warmen, unaufdringlichen Ton, der ausgezeichnet zur akustischen Gitarre und unverstärktem Gesang passt. Ich setze ihn in kleinen Musiziergruppen mit ungeübten Musiker/innen ein, wo er gerne verwendet wird und auch unexaktes Spielen verzeiht. Für höhere Ansprüche finde ich ihn weniger geeignet, denn der Ton hat nur eine geringe Durchsetzungsfähigkeit und exaktes Spielen erfordert wesentlich mehr Körpereinsatz, als z.B. bei Egg-Shakern erforderlich ist. Da ich selbst Gitarre spiele und singe, wird die Percussion meist vom Publikum bedient (mit den musikalischen Grenzen, die das mit sich bringt). Für mich heißt das: Wood Shaker im kleinsten Setting, ohne Mikrofone, rein akustisch. Für andere Bedarfe empfehle ich andere Shaker. Ausnahme: Bei Aufnahmen überzeugt der Klang absolut! Für mich gehört der Wood Shaker deshalb in das gut sortierte Percussion-Repertoire.
