Thomastik BB114

I use this set of strings for a short-scale 1950s Gretsch Rambler. I'm somewhat familiar with Thomastiks, having used them on my vintage Martin and modern Gibson acoustics, and in terms of quality this set is no different. The string-to-string balance is excellent, the feel is superb, honestly these strings completely brought this guitar alive.

Definitely worth a try if you're not into flatwounds on archtops, and are looking for something different with a little bit more 'edge'. The construction is brilliant and the strings are on a year and still sound as good as day one.

Verarbeitung, Stimmstabilität und Haltbarkeit sind top. Im Diskant die messingbeschichteten Plain Steels sehr ausgewogen, voll und warm. Im Bass durch die Runddrahtbewicklung relativ aggressiv und höhenreich für Jazz-Saiten. Allerdings fehlt 'irgendwie' der Druck und Knack. Man kann sie gut zweckentfremden für Drop-Tunings, in Grenzen bis in den Blues-Rock-Bereich. Für Soli klingen sie auch stärker verzerrt noch gut, Single Note Riffs auf den Bassaiten fehlt allerdings trotz kräftiger Höhen der Punch.

Wie häufig bei Thomastik ist die Saitenspannung gemessen an der Stärke relativ gering, das gilt auch für die Diskantsaiten.

Mein Geschmack sind sie nicht, aber gerade wenn man in der Band akkustische Durchsetzungsprobleme hat, sind die Saiten einen Versuch wert.

J'utilise ces cordes sur ma Gibson ES-150 de 1937 sur laquelle j'utilisais précédemment des D'Addario EJ21 (Nickel Wound, 12-52) puis des Thomastik BB113, et je suis ravi du changement: par rapport aux D'Addario, ces nouvelles cordes sont plus souples, le son est beaucoup moins brillant type "folk" (je devais jouer les précédentes une ou deux semaines avant que le son soit convenable), la guitare sonne beaucoup plus acoustique et plus égale. Ce tirant est parfait pour une guitare qui peut l'encaisser, les cordes aigûes notamment ont beaucoup plus de consistance, et la guitare sonne plus. Malgré leur prix élevé et une usure assez rapide, notamment de la corde de Sol, je n'utilise plus que ces cordes.
