Industry standard strings

These strings are seen on almost every jazz bass in the country, for a reason!

Although i have strayed away a few times, trying the likes of velvet and helicore, I keep coming back to these Spirocores as the sound consistently great.

Growly, with a lot of life, but not overly toppy these strings sound great un-amplified and (importantly) with a pickup. They also are very long lasting and (once you get past the initial 'zing') sound very even throughout their life.

They Can be bowed, but I think its fair to say the are primarily a jazz string with Pizz in mind, as some players (including myself!) find them a little unruly under the bow.

Overall, a great set of stings at a very good price.

Bench Mark for a Reason

I recently changed strings from Spiro weichs to Spiro mittels and it has transformed my bass. The bass is particulary dark and the mittels brightened it enough for better note clarity, definition and volume, but not the banjo twang that's talked about with these strings. The tension wasn't that noticeably different from the weichs either so wins all around. Great price on these from Thomann too. Mittels are certainly worth trying at least once in your double bass adventures.

Great strings. Scratchy with the bow though and hard work on the right hand when playing jazz pizz at up tempos and when faster lines need to be played. Of course these strings are the jazz classic with awesome power and huge punch on the fundamental with a lovely growl on the lower notes on the E string. I replaced my Mittels with Pirastro Perpetuals and i must say the perpetuals do it all. I will always keep the spiros in the string box for the future as they last soooooo long.

My best choice!

As a double bass player (jazz) I am using Thomastik strings since 1987 and I am very pleased playing these strings. I have tried some other good brands but I realize that I am best off with The Spirocore Medium (weich)
