I measure all mouthpieces and the 5JB curve varies by about .06mm over the 15 I have measured, mainly from the middle to the tip. You never really know what you are going to get! So a tip could be 1.50mm to 1.56mm.
Quality control is not good enough as a variation of just .01mm makes a big difference to performance.

Really opened up my clarinet tone

I use this mouthpiece on a yamaha ycl 450 clarinet. It's the second one I have owned, the other being for a buffet b12 clarinet. I preferred this piece over the vandoren b45 as the long facing suits my way of playing. Very expressive piece and compliments the rich tone of my yamaha beautifully. No qualms with the quality either, as with every vandoren mouthpiece I've had it is excellent. I use a rovner dark ligature and vandoren classic no2 reeds with it. Nice beak!

Ich liebe den Sound meines Viotto auf meiner LeBlanc, aber in der Jazz-Combo oder Bigband kommt man einfach nicht durch...und heimlich wünschte ich mir seit Jahrzehnten einen Luftdurchlass wie bei einem Saxophon. Obwohl ich es also nicht für möglich gehalten habe, dass ein Gelegenheitsklarinettist auf einer großen Öffnung gespielt kann, habe ich es dank Thomanns Umtausch-Politik eines Tages endlich versucht. Ergebnis: nicht weniger als eine Offenbarung.

Eine fast saxophonistische Lautstärke mit sehr angenehmem Luftverbrauch bei einem absolut guten, angenehm rundem Sound und bester Ansprache, natürlich mit einem entsprechend leichtem Blatt (Legere Kunstoff, 2). Sehr Rolf Kühn! Und typisch Vandoren: sehr geringe Toleranzen, d. h. mehrere Mundstücke mit der gleichen Bahn spielen sich auch praktisch gleich! Ich würde behaupten, hier kann man darauf verzichten, mehrere gleiche Mundstücke gegeneinander zu testen. Das Profile 88 kommt mir bei dieser Bahn sehr entgegen, ich habe es gegen die klassische Form gespielt. Meiner Wahrnehmung nach kann man hier mit verschiedenen Stellungen des Instruments spielen, ohne gleich mit Kieksern bestraft zu werden.

Vermutlich meine beste Anschaffung überhaupt, hat aus meinem Angst-Instrument im Jazz einen ausdruckstarken Favoriten gemacht.

Je joue d'ordinaire sur un 5JB Traditionnel et je voulais un bec de rechange en cas de casse. J'en ai profité pour commander et tester un 5JB Profile 88. Même son que le 5JB, même expressivité, il est souple, il a du volume, je retrouve mon bec habituel. Le Profile 88 me semble plus confortable, mais rien n'empêche de passer de l'un à l'autre et c'est une sensation personnelle. Gros plus : un plus joli son à faible volume, moins de souffle. C'est un bec qui demande d'envoyer de l'air mais qui laisse place à l'expressivité du musicien.
