Classical Guitar

Yamaha has developed the CGS102 model with young guitarists in mind by creating a guitar in 1/2 size. Thanks to its 535 mm scale and a narrower body, the handling of this guitar is comfortable even for the youngest of children. A spruce top, in combination with the meranti bottom and sides, ensures a full, balanced sound despite the guitar's small size. A genuine rosewood fretboard plus a solid rosewood bridge are also included in the basic setup.

Great for tiny guitarists
Sister Panic 14.08.2020
Bought for 6y old daughter, to spark her interest in guitar play. She is 121cm tall, and this fits her size perfectly.

The guitar itself sounds reasonably well, but loses depth as you move up the frets (expected). My only qualm with this is the tuning, which will only hold for one session. Strings B and G seem to loosen most, the rest stay quite close to tuning. I don't know if this is product specific, or I just got a faulty item. I'm sure this can be fixed, but I don't want the hassle. Doesn't bother me much, because it forces my kid to practice tuning before exercising, and holds long enough for the kid to get bored.

Tuning issue aside, this is certainly fit for purpose and very much meets the product description.

Nice little guitar
Frednugent 07.11.2020
I keep this one next to the sofa. I end up writing on it more than my much more expensive guitars because it's easy to play and small. Just pick it up and go. Leave it around and not worry about humidity, bumps, etc. Nice to have a little guitar to throw around a bit and still use a lot. The strings are still stock afetr 6 months. Not bad! The sound is what it should be for a little guitar. Not a Hummingbird, but great for writing music and singing with.

H
fair but unspectacular beginner's instrument for the price
Han-earl 15.07.2020
As an absolute beginner's guitar, this is fine. The construction and sound is unspectacular at best, and sometimes mediocre (intonation is terrible past the first few positions, some of the fret ends need filing, etc.), but the quality is what I would expect at this price point.

As a guitar teacher, I would not recommend this instrument for a serious student, but it is perfect for the 6 to 8 year old child who is interested in playing, but not yet ready to fully commit to the instrument. In other words, for the young, curious prospective guitarist, it's a great place to get started; getting comfortable with the guitar and with the ritual of playing. In that context, I would recommend this instrument.

This guitar does not sound like a toy. It is very well built and good looking. Bought it for my son, but have played it myself and it sounds great.
