One of the best choices for the price even may be the best. I use HS 8 on my studio and bought HS 5 to use at home. You can hear all the sounds in a music track. All the frequencies are well balanced. The clearest mids and highs and good, round bass. They are ideal for a little or home studio. If you a beatmaker, sound engineer or a DJ don?t think just buy them.
I want to tell something about features too. They have room control and high trim so you can fit them exactly to your room. You can use both trs and xlr cables. The metal cage of high frequencies twitter is very good protection. They are a bit heavier than I expected.
P.S. White monitors just looks brilliant at a studio. Absolutely satisfied. Doesn't need anything else to make my job done. Highly Reccomend especially for those who make rap/hip-hop music.

I use these in my relatively small home studio.
First off all, the monitors look great in white!
I find the clarity in these monitors really good for the price. I previously owned M-Audio BX5a and Bx5a D2, and I think the yamaha HS5 deliver flat / neutral sound and the room controls are good to tweak the sound and get better result depending on your room. I think I might upgrade to HS8 if I move my studio to a bigger room for a better bass respond, but the HS5 suite my small room quite well for now.
