A great introduction to the PSR world

PSR-E373 front view

Yamaha's PSR-E373 is a portable keyboard designed for practice and composition. It is the successor to the PSR-E363 and benefits from the new LSI sound generation engine. Unlike the entry-level PSR-273 model, it features velocity-sensitive keys, 48-voice polyphony, and a wider selection of sounds and rhythmic sections. The Super Articulation Lite technology truly brings to life the sonorities and playing characteristics of a wealth of acoustic instruments. The PSR-373 also features a two-track sequencer and the ability to record compositions in audio format. Additionally, MIDI signals can easily be transferred via USB, to and from a computer. Last but not least, the integrated "Keys to Success" educational application allows the user to practise different passages from the PSR's internal songs step by step and to adjust the tempo to suit their needs.

One sound for each hand

The PSR-E373 features 61 keys with adjustable velocity response, ranging from "light" to "hard." The response can also be set to a specific value using the "Fixed" option. To the right of the display, the buttons select the sounds, songs and rhythmic styles of accompaniment. A whopping 622 sounds can be selected via the number dial. These include acoustic and electric pianos, organs, string instruments, brass, guitars, basses, synth sounds, percussion and special effects. The "Dual Voice" function allows the layering of two sounds across the keyboard, which can also be split so that each hand plays a different instrument. The "DSP" button adds further effects such as reverb and chorus. Finally, the main output of PSR-E373's can also be fine-tuned thanks to its dedicated equaliser.

A useful learning companion

The PSR-E373 has been designed with budding keyboardists in mind, offering authentic sounds and user-friendly tutorials. With its 154 built-in songs, it provides a range of technique exercises, as well as famous piano pieces and global hits. Moreover, the sheet music for each song is freely downloadable, which further enhances the learning experience. The auxiliary input can connect to an external source such as a smartphone to provide a backing track, for example, which also can be useful during practice. The "Duo" mode is ideal in teacher-student scenarios, since the keyboard can then easily be used simultaneously by two people. The USB connectivity (both MIDI and audio) grants access to DAW environments and virtual instruments. What is more, the PSR-E373 can be powered by six AA batteries, so it can be taken outdoors to practise and play in the fresh air whenever the mood strikes!

About Yamaha

For decades, Yamaha has been one of the world’s best-known manufacturers of musical instruments and audio technology. The Japanese company’s long history began at the end of the 19th century with the harmonium. The product range has constantly expanded since then, which has made Yamaha one of the few manufacturers today to offer almost the entire range of existing musical instruments: From upright and grand pianos to guitars, wind instruments, and bowed string instruments and from drums and percussion to electronic keyboards and synthesizers. Yamaha is also a major force in the field of audio engineering as a manufacturer of mixing consoles, amplifiers, PA systems, and more. Yamaha's guiding principle is to combine traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology.

A complete setup for the stage

The PSR-E373 boasts 38 internal DSP effects, offering a vast range of sonic possibilities. Additionally, the PSR-E373 features a versatile arpeggiator and harmoniser with 26 modes, which include "Duo" and "Trio", and further delays or tremolos can also be added to the main instrument. The arpeggiator has 150 predefined patterns, and chords can seamlessly be played at a single touch. Thanks to the "Smart Chord" function, melodies are accompanied harmonically as well as rhythmically in real time, in the key of the song. The metronome is adjustable from 11 to 280 bpm, which also is crucial for good practising.
