A welcome return of Dimension FX

Back in the 80’s I used to have a Boss Dimension D pedal. I preferred it to Chorus because it did not feature the same rhythmic beating and changing the effect was quick with four preset buttons.

Chorus is something I hardly ever use these days, but it is still a useful effect to add some unexpected sonic colour now and then. So, I have had an Ibanez mini chorus on the board for a while — and hated it for all the reasons I didn’t like Chorus in the 80’s.

Then I came across this one. It is a similar concept to the Dimension D and the Chorus setting on it is really rich and lush. There is enough range with the three controls to get all ‘experimental’, but it never sounds stupid or ugly, just a bit over the top. I keep it at a chorus setting and really like it.

There is noticeable background hiss when it is switched on, but this is only audible if you are not playing anything. It is not there when it is switched off. One star removed for that.

The box is not your regular MXR type FX box, it is a rather boutique unit, CNC carved from a big block of aluminium, exuding quality and class.
