Mehr als "nur" ein exzellenter Blaswandler!

Der AE-30 ist sein Geld absolut wert. Die Sounds sind hervorragend und das Teil lässt sich enorm dynamisch und ausdrucksvoll spielen. Zum Üben (eigentlich habe ich das Teil nur dafür gekauft) sind die eingebauten Speaker ok, aber erst über Kopfhörer oder Anlage entfaltet sich die Qualität der Klänge so richtig. Die Sounds sind alle brauchbar, nicht wie üblich irgendwelcher Demo-Schnickschnack, den man für nix gebrauchen kann.

Womit ich überhaupt nicht gerechnet habe: von den 305 Sounds („Scenes“) sind 120 - so wie sie sind - polyphon per MIDI spielbar, weitere 73 monophon. Die anderen sind möglicherweise durch MIDI-Anpassungen zum Laufen zu bringen. Auch kann man wohl sehr leicht jedes Instrument zwischen monophon und polyphon umschalten. Immerhin sind sogar zwei Pianos dabei, aber beide sind leider nicht mit der SUPERnatural Engine erzeugt. Sie klingen ganz ok, wenn auch ein wenig flach.

Aber das Gerät ist schließlich in erster Linie ein Blaswandler und nicht ein Expander. Wer einen solchen benötigt ist mit dem Integra 7 in der selben Preisklasse besser bedient. Dafür sind wirklich alle Blasinstrumente, ethnischen Instrumente und die Chöre genial, auch Solo-Streicher und ein paar String-Ensembles. Besonders Letztere und die Chöre sind enorm dynamisch. Außerdem sind noch 18 Drum/Percussion-Sets verfügbar. Damit wird nahezu alles an akustischen /elektroakustischen Instrumenten abgedeckt. Was fehlt sind E-Pianos und Clavinet. Banjo gibt’s auch nicht, ließe sich aber durch eines der ethnischen Instrumente ersetzen (wenn man es bräuchte), das ähnlich klingt. Gleiches gilt fürs Theremin und Triangel. Leider ist kein Mellotron dabei, anders als bei dem Spitzen-E-Piano von Roland und vermutlich auch dem Integra 7 –Expander. Auch die Rolandeigenen Synth-Sounds sind teilweise satt, aber ich habe den Verdacht, dass sie ohne Editieren nicht vollständig per MIDI angesprochen werden, da sie mit dem Gerät selbst gespielt wesentlich besser klingen.

Wenn man das Gerät als Expander nutzen will, ist es immerhin 4-fach Multitimbral, wobei ein Part für Drums/Percussion belegt ist. Damit passt es gut zum Keystep Pro

Als MIDI-Controller übertrifft das Teil alles, was ich kannte. Neben der Blasluft gibt es noch einen „Beißcontroller“, ein druckempfindliches Pad, ein Pitchbend-Wheel und zwei Schalter. Außerdem lassen sich mindestens 6 der Spieltasten als Controller verwenden. Alle Controller lassen sich völlig frei belegen; die dynamischen (Blas- und Beißcontroller. Wheel und Pad) lassen sich in 6 verschiedenen Kurven und vielen weiteren Parametern individuell konfigurieren.


Positiv:

- feinfühliger und dynamischer MIDI-Controller der sich in weiten Bereichen konfigurieren lässt
- Hervorragende Soundbibliothek, vor allem bei akustischen Instrumenten
- Nutzbar als Midi Expander auch mit polyphonen Klängen
- Angenehmes Spielgefühl und gute Ergonomie

Negativ:

- Editierung umständlich
- Verschlusskappe des Mundstücks sitzt zu locker
- Bei Expanderbetrieb gibt es in der Grundeinstellung Probleme mit angeschlossenem Sustain-Pedal
- keine Ladefunktion für optionale NiMH-Akkus
