Absolutely the best pickup ever for metal
The Alt 8 ended up in my ESP LTD MH-1000 Deluxe. It brought the guitar back to live - much , much better sound than the stock EMG 81s.
I can describe it as a Tone Zone on steroids - more power and dynamics, less noise. Overall:
--Strong , yet tight bass
--Punchy low mids
--Aggresive but not harsh high mids
--Presesnt but not fizzy highs
And the description on SD site is correct - the ALT 8 combines the warmth of an alnico 5 with the agression of a ceramic magnet.
Highly recommended for metal genres and superstrats with trems.

Good pickup
The pickup is good, but is too compressed and stiff for my taste. At least for more traditional rock/metal. I like better '59/Custom Hybrid, which is more open and dynamic. Lowering the pickup into the body and rising the pole pieces helps, but still... it's very compressed. Good at lower tunings like DropC for SOAD songs. ;)

ESP Horizon FR II Upgrade
I purchased this Seymour Duncan TB-15 Alternative 8 trem, and fitted it to my ESP horizon FRII which I also purchased from Thomann, This made the treble output a little bit hotter. An absolute superb pickup for soloing. Great service provided by Thomann again.
